I'll be honest, as a liberal...I wish Obama had governed with this much bravado
There's a very good reason President Obama didn't govern in the manner Trump has governed. This has a very authoritarian, strongman feel to it, akin to the regimes of Hungary, Russia, and Turkey. Obviously the rightwing in this country have finally revealed themselves as authoritarians hiding behind a mask of limited government rhetoric (and yes, there are some legitimate small government conservatives). They didn't want the state to not be a bully - only for the state to be their bully.
Expect a serious constitutional crisis by year's end - and a congressional GOP unwilling to defend the constitution.
It also ignores the fact that this just isn't the person who Obama is. His leadership style by all accounts is very much consensus-based. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- just that people only really care about government doing something the wrong way rather than nothing the right way.
