Anyone planning on seeing it?

'The Lord Of The Rings’ Trilogy Returns To Theaters In Extended 4K UHD

Quote
Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition trilogy is returning to theaters in gloriously remastered 4K UHD this summer. Warner Bros. Discovery is re-releasing the films with Fathom Events, at certain AMC, Regal, and Cinemark Theaters around North America.

The Fellowship of the Rings, the 2001 film that launched the adaptation franchise, will screen on Saturday, June 8th. Then on Sunday, June 9th, comes the sequel The Two Towers. The final chapter Return of the King screens Monday June 10th.

No, I don't even like things to be that clear. I like the regular "movie" look.

No for two reasons.

1) Watching these behemoths at a cinema with no bathroom breaks has become an impossibility in my age.

2) I respect and enjoy the Lord of the Rings movies but I never really loved them.

And how about the younger folks who weren't of age to see the films when they first came out more than twenty years ago?  I was in college at the time, as I recall.

I have it on blu-ray. I didn't even care enough to upgrade to the UHDs. Not too big on these movies. I actually liked the Hobbit movies, which I have in 3D, more.

I caught the first two in the cinema over the winter (my local reruns classic stuff over quiet periods to keep attendance up), so I'll probably skip those and go see Return of the King.

The CGI, while still marvelous was straining a little bit at the seams on the big screen in some of the wide shots (the collapsing stairs in the run towards the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, and some of the panning shots over the Uruk-Hai swarming in the rain during Helms Deep were oddly composited), so I'm hoping the remaster doesn't make moments like that stand out and spoil the magic.

Nah.

It's not the remastered Lord of the Rings I'd actually be curious to see in theaters, the one I'd want to see remastered is 45+ years old actually.

This one?  Seriously?

I saw this when I was in middle school (this was in the 1990s) when the teacher had the VHS tape on.  To say I was unimpressed is putting it mildly.

The Bakshi version!

A trippy, 70s, hand-drawn, partially-rotoscoped LOTR with an A-list cast including John Hurt as a brooding Aragorn?

Incredible concept - just a shame it was so poor in practice.

I own them on DVD.
Seen the movies plenty of times already.
Thus, probably no.
(But I would not be surprised if the new-er generation sees them and likes them.)

Nah. I have the extended editions on DVD and just watched Return of the King Parts one and two separated by a week with my family within the last month.
