Only people who don't know how money works thinks the budget should be balanced.

In fact, theoretically, the budget never has to be balanced if the deficit is brought within the rate of inflation and thus the debt contained to a fixed percentage of GDP.

It’s not so much the literal balancing of the budget as much as Lief's general revulsion at fiscal constraint.

I have a general revulsion towards fiscal constraint? Who knew.

I do have a general revulsion towards using a problem that does not exist to take food and shelter and healthcare away from poor people. That's true.

Inflation and GDP growth are not the same thing.

This. The CDU dominance of Germany ensured the development of a healthy social market economy rather than falling into the nationalization trap like the Brits did, leading to a massive neoliberal backlash [1] under Thatcher.

[1] It is true Germany like other countries was affected by neoliberalism during its high tide in the 1990s and 2000s but it was far milder than most and at this point the CDU has fully abandoned it on a domestic level.

Nyes: Only people who haven't the slightest clue think the budget must be balanced every year, or even that committing that might conceivably be not harmful*. OTOH understanding that a permanently unbalanced budget is a bad thing is perfectly correct. That requires using boom years to tax companies HARD, though.

*These clueless halfwits are a supermajority not just of all strains of the right but also of the respectable centre-left, of course.

RR is right about the 90s actually, but nowt else. We're reaping the benefits of that at current.

Even if South Park is left wing 49% of the time and right wing 51% of the time, that still makes it a right wing TV show and far to the left of most TV shows. Why on Earth would I watch right leaning filth when I can watch left wing propaganda like Family Guy or The Daily Show?

But you know, pots somehow cool. It only alters your mind. I know a guy who I once went to school with who was smoking pot and ran over somebody. But that's not that big of a deal, I guess Roll Eyes.

Let's ban alcohol then.
How about legalize everything?

Including smothering libertarians with pillows?

But aren't Libertarians heartless elites who want to throw bricks at poors? Tongue
Krazen's a Libertarian now?

Who said krazen is an elite?

Just ask him.

The only thing even remotely arguable about Scott's post is granting that... whatever it is... the unearned indulgence of the name "pizza".  Like I said, "misnamed tomato casserole" is the best title it deserves.

What about a nice gluten-free LA-style pizza with low-fat part-skim cheese, no-sugar-added sauce, and a single basil leaf baked on the top? Cheesy

Good sauce doesn't need sugar, and fresh basil leaves are always welcome, even if you have to be stingy with them.

But... gluten-free?  For pizza??!?

They weren't bad posts.  Absurd maybe, owing to some of your presuppositions that don't hold together real well, but still an interesting way of looking at the question.

I mean sure he's talking to krazen, but .... really??

Who is this fellow and does he collect not one, not two, not three, but four forms of welfare?

Its a meme called "Scumbag Steve." Ah, I forgot you weren't very savvy when it comes to pop/meme culture. I suppose that tends to happen when you live in a neat little bubble.
Anyway, the meme is often used to call out hypocrites.

In real life, its sounds like he goes to school and works. Of course, ill-informed people like you would very much like to label him otherwise based on superficial criteria.
