Confirmed just about everywhere.  What effect will this have on the morale of his followers?  Either they will be temporarily crippled, or someone will fill the void and Bin laden will be a martyr for the cause against America.

Obama's approval will be VERY high tommorow

I think he hurt himself waiting THIS long though to announce (not that his poll numbers will drop, but they won't be as high as they could have been), fox got it first. It's 45 minutes late, he lost the umph of announcing it as President.

What I'd really love to see is Petraeus' approvals

This is hilarious. Give it up.

I don't think he can help himself.

If 9/11 got Bush's approval up to 90%, I can't see how killing Osama won't result in a similar success.

You can't?  Don't you think this is going to be seen as a much smaller scale event than 9/11 itself?  I really don't see why this kind of thing would be expected to boost the prez's numbers by 20 or 30 points.  Bin Laden's death is not a political earthquake, like 9/11 was.

It'll just be a small, temporary shift.  Unless the economy all of a sudden rebounds, no one should expect what boost he gets to stick.

One possible political outcome that has only been mentioned in passing is that this might scare off some "serious" Republicans from challenging Obama. If he appears formidable, people like Mitch Daniels and John Huntsman might just as soon wait for 2016.

That makes it ever so slightly easier for Obama to get reelected, but not much else long term.

I hope it doesn't scare anyone off.  Otherwise, we might end up with Trump representing us... Gag*

Anyway, the OBL kill is what VPB might call a BFD.

You use more acronyms in one sentence than many Washingtonians here.  Tongue

So what does VPB and BFD stand for?

I'm guessing Vice President Biden.. Not sure about BFD
