Jim Douglas (R-VT)/ Tom Ridge (R-PA) vs Mark Warner (D-VA)/Brad Henry (D-OK)

By an act of god these men made it through the 2008 primaries.

Jim Douglas has a lot of cross-appeal in this scenario. He manages to keep Warner at 50% in many Democratic states, and also keeps him at 50% in many Republican states.

This. 2008 was destined to be a Democratic year due to Bush's unpopularity, and Douglas's position on abortion alienates many conservatives.

Warner 294-244. I'm not very confident in this map. It's so hard to figure out how a race like this would turn out.

I don't know why everybody else seems to think Douglas would do so well.

In any other election year, perhaps, but in 2008, when so many people are already disaffected with the Republican Party, a guy like Warner would crush Douglas.
