Agreed, just hit him with a massive fine and let him go. The imprisonment of people for "white collar crimes" is utterly absurd when our prisons are overcrowded as is.

No, other way around. Let out the non-violent poors and put the white collar criminals in their cells.

It's kind of irrelevant.

My religion says so is not a valid public policy reason for anything.

We have secular law in the United States.  You can believe that homosexuality is a sin, eating pork is a sin or that music is a sin.  But, you can't ban music, pork or homosexuality because you think God hates those things.  I think that's pretty clear.

An obvious truth from a newbie.

They're not small government...Just government that agrees with their view on the world.

If they were small government they'd allow people to marry who they please and end the war on drugs.

We cannot hurt the working poor, the drug addicted, and the mentally ill. If saying this makes me fiscally irresponsible, so be it. When we hurt the most vulnerable in our society, we show ourselves to be people who do bad despite knowing better.

Context:

The American electorate, who can barely be bothered to vote and who have let the political process be hijacked by performative hucksters, extremists and special interests via their apathy
