bats are my favorite animal obviously but i can think of a bunch of others that also tend to divide people. like gators and crocodiles, they're so cute with their young

and they appreciate a good back scratch from their pet human:

That's an alligator (though I do enjoy them as well as crocodiles). Everyone is obviously going to answer this question with "sharks" though, so I'll be different and say that I find all snakes absolutely fascinating.

Snakes, spiders, crocodiles, alligators, lizards, geckos, sphynxes...

I suppose tigers and cheetahs aren't unpopular (scary they are) but they're my favourites.

I'm not sure they count as unpopular, but bumble bees are one of my favourite animals.

I could probably name several, but I'll just name a few for now.  I like snakes, and I love alligators and crocodiles.  I'm also a huge fan of moose, which don't seem too popular.

we had a snake in our yard actually that we considered part of the family. mom called it lola, it was always greeting her whenever she gardened. liked to lick me too sometimes. as far as we know she died  in 2010 during the great flood so we marked her spot with a little stick cross.

Not sure if they count as "scary", but for some reason I've always liked reptiles in general.

Scary or unpopular? Hmm. Perhaps the most intelligent of the invertebrates:

There's too many to name! Among some of the scariest (though not all dangerous) that I like: Tigers, lionesses, black panthers, cheetahs, leopards, coyotes, wolves, Tasmanian devil, sharks, whales, walruses, snakes, and polar bears and others.

Though for me, the cutest, but still dangerous animal for me will always be the raccoon.

bats are my favorite for so many reasons. they're literally puppies with wings (pups is the correct term for their babies). besides their usefulness and cuteness they're sociable, crave affection, and even mourn their dead. i really don't understand how anyone could hate or fear this:

I like all mammals, and the smart non-mammals (a couple of birds, a couple of shellfish).
