And if he doesn't stop, the rich will stop donating to the poor.  For example, his rich buddy (unnamed) might withhold his donation of millions to restore St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC.

Cuz, you know, nothing helps the poor like millions of dollars for a crappy, poorly insulated building!

I have nothing but contempt for these people.

And talk of morality alienates those that don't live quite by that code. Next!

To be quite honest, I don't want this guy giving money to the poor voluntarily.  Not with his attitude.  It should be taken, pried from his fingers, and distributed to the poor.  And those poor people should shop at Lowes or Menards.

Tough luck that the Pope alienates the super-rich of America.

I knew that the new Pope would be trouble for plutocracy when he took the name Francis.

Before or after the beheading?

Edited to add my schedule was marked wrong; I left around 8:30.

Has Pope Francis actually specifically condenmed the wealthy? His message seems more focused upon helping the poor rather than attacking the rich.

Nevertheless, I will say that it would be a grave mistake for the Church to attempt to align itself more prominently with leftist causes.

If Republicans think Pope Francis is "too liberal", just wait until they meet Jesus.

They won't be meeting Jesus.  They'll be meeting the other guy.  He's more to their tastes.

The Book of Mormon has similar anti-wealthy passages as well, lots of "well you care for your wealth more than your fellow man? You judge him for asking for his fair share? THEN YOU ARE DOOMED" types of thoughts.

This is unfortunately the sort of despicable thing riches say when they don't have the fear of the guillotine in them.

Someone tried to bribe the pop with a 7 digit sum to be nicer to the rich.

Someone should ironically try to bribe the pope with a penny to be nicer to the poor.

Two pennies if one wishes to reference the lesson of the widow's mite.  However, it will need to be someone who really is poor and not a latte liberal who does it.

Jesus did not say "Blessed are the rich and powerful so that they may indulge themselves on the oppression of the multitudes".

Helping the poor is moral; it spares people from having only such horrible choices as between vice and starvation. It ensures that people can participate fully in an economy instead of hope for salvation from poverty through the appeals of K. Marx and successors.

Good one. I can think of a Dantesque bolgia for their kind. They hunger despite their burdens of worthless banknotes -- because there is nothing to buy.

Jesus Christ and The Church are well above and before mere ideology.

So does anyone else see Pope Francis being kind of Christian Leftist? Because that's the vibe I'm getting from him.

A lot of it is style more than substance. Benedict said a lot of similar stuff but it didn't get much air time.

It's not about left or right. It's about what's right. And like I have said before, I don't think he wants the Church's teachings enforced at gunpoint

The Catholic Church is a financial institution too, just like members of Congress. What is the chance that Francis will actually feel the heat and dial it back? I assume they are looking at their internal numbers in terms of what his new direction is having on enthusiasm and balancing that against their donor base.

The Pope calls upon the rich to donate their money away, and this guy says he suddenly feels alienated because he is now being told by the head of his Church (I assume he is Catholic) that donating to the poor is the right thing to do, and now he'll respond by donating less.

Can't explain that.
