''The governor of Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, has signed a new law against "homosexual propaganda" -- defying complaints that it discriminates against gays.

The regional law -- which applies only to St. Petersburg -- threatens fines for anyone found "making public actions among minors for the propaganda of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality or transgenderism."

Republicans, do you think we could learn something from Russia here? They ARE taking a states-rights approach, well, city's rights.

Yep.

We're not too far from Russia after all. Just a touch more suavecito

It was wrong to single out Republicans in the title though. Democrats can obviously be just as anti-free-speech and anti-gay. Though again, suavecito

At least he's honest that he wants to indoctrinate his kids. Tongue

I mean, if we're being honest that's all school is. Kids don't know anything. You can't teach them everything. So what do you want them to know?

Do you want them to be taught that homosexuality is no big deal, or do you want them to be taught to treat homosexuality as a taboo subject?

I say the first, but that's just a reflection of my worldview that, well, homosexuality really is no big deal.

Of course, if you let your kid watch TV or use the internet, they will know about homosexuality far before High School. But I guess some people think their children should be lied to because dudes kissing is gross.

there is a big difference between outlawing something in schools from teachers and outlawing it among the general public.

It's no less despicable, just on a smaller scale.

Would you find it OK to outlaw mention of the word God to students under the age of 14?

If we're talking about indoctrination, far more children are indoctrinated with Christianity than Homosexuality.

I wasn't defending it... just saying that the two aren't the same.

Of course 2 different things are different, but it's the same principal at play: People think that talking about Homosexuality in any positive or accepting way is harmful to society, and should be punishable.

In Russia they go farther than in the Tennessee bill, but it's the same idea. Propagandize Homosexuality, and there are consequences.
