No drug that I'm aware of has ever been revealed to be a cure for anything. Marijuana and some others are usable as painkillers, but LSD isn't useful even for that.

Only because of the taboo in looking for cures from these drugs.

FWIW, there is a history of LSD being used in underground psychological therapy, although MDMA is more common in that field (and trials were approved by the U.S. government a few years ago).

Then we can consider, separately, a way to legalize research. I'd even be willing to support an amendment to this bill allowing research, but only if the full-scale legalization in this bill is cut out.

I would like to urge my fellow Senators to vote in favor of this amendment; no legislation on full-scale legalization can or will be passed.

Tally on Verily's Amendment
Aye: 1 (Verily)
Nay: 4 (SoS; Ebowed; Friz; Earl)
Yet to Vote: 5 (Afleitch; Brandon; Moderate; Sam; Sensei)

An unfortunate turn of events.  If we can't have decriminalization rather than legalization, then I am afraid we're going to wind up with neither.

I will be opposing cloture on this bill.

(And between Verily, Sam, Brandon, and myself, that all but kills it where it stands.)

In hopes of avoiding that, I motion to table this legislation.

LOL at my bill being too liberal to pass through the senate, I urge Sens. Ebowed, SoS, and EarlAW (and any others) to continue to pursue this worthy fight with hopes that the next senate can undeadlock this one way or the other.

A tabling motion requires two-thirds of the Senate to pass, so the vote should be closed
