RIP. At least she lived a pretty long life and got to see her daughter become First Lady...Not something 90% of other moms can say.

Yeah, especially when you consider that Barack's parents were long gone when he became one of the yongest presidents. Not to mention that his mother was only 19 when she gave birth, but already died of cancer in 1995. Meanwhile, Dubya was fortunate enough to have both his parents around well beyond his terms in office. Even Biden's mother was still there for the first year of his vice presidency.

However, it feels surreal to be reminded that Barack is already 62 and Michelle 60. Feels like they're so much younger.

His grandma almost made it, died Election Day.

Gálvez narrowly leading in Aguascalientes makes me think she’s the “Religious Right” candidate, but NYT’s bio for her (and Sheinbaum leading by a similary narrow margin in Guanajuato- which MORENA lost last time around) suggest otherwise. Anyone have any insights on this? I was under the impression that one or both of those states is a relative stronghold of Catholicism, organized religion, and/or social conservatism.

Xóchitl Gálvez
A former senator and outspoken tech entrepreneur who has often adhered to progressive politics. She has vowed to return checks and balances to the government and demilitarize the country. The coalition backing her is made up of the formerly rival parties P.R.I., P.A.N. and P.R.D., who many voters see as responsible for Mexico's legacy of corruption

Are you kidding? Of course Biden's gonna pardon Hunter. That's his son! What parent wouldn't?

Donald Trump.

Trump would pardon his kid, no question.

He was already President, he considered it & didn't.

I am also interested in what you think his punishment should be.

For me, it depends on if any of the jurors, the judge, prosecutors or staff of the court are targeted with violence by trump's thugs prior to sentencing. If so, the hammer should be brought down on his head. Serious prison time.

If not, I'd be entirely happy with Judge Merchan applying sentence guidelines fairly to the defendant. I've heard the "typical" punishment for a comparable case would be home confinement for some length of time on top of hefty fines.

Biggest question I have about those sentencing guidelines is whether they would still warrant only house arrest when factoring in the my bogglingly phrasing level of lack of remorse Trump has demonstrated throughout this entire process, including but certainly not limited to his repeated violation of the Court's gag orders. Demonstrating lack of genuine remorse, let alone any remorse whatsoever is an aggravating sentencing guideline and pretty much any jurisdiction I'm aware of, and I wonder if it's enough for him to do some local time at least.

Also interested in whether his multiple civil adjudications for sexual assault, fraud, Etc can be held against him, either under a specific sentence enhancing guideline involving such civil matters, or under some catch-all provision?

I was wondering the exact same thing, and I was also wondering if the fake $50 million loan he reported in his tax returns would factor against him, but that fake loan as far as I understand has not been proven to be fraudulent yet, so probably not.

Not even going to try and explain what is going on there.

Collective punishment is the only real tactic of the militant pro-Palestinian movement now that it's clear they don't have the support of the general public. This is just an extension of that.

Didn't the Israeli president say that there were no innocent Palestinians?

There's people on both sides who support collective punishment for the other.

It's a 319/219 map and NC is the ultimate swing state if Biden wins NY 53/46 like Hochul did

This kind of thinking is why Romney would be a good president, but could never be elected president.
