Smith won the deep south despite his Catholicism in 1928; and if he were the nominee once more in 1932 he'd win them again.

The greatest man never elected president.

This election has the distinction of being the first presidential election during my lifetime. So I really have no knowledge of it, but Looking back on it in history, I would have certainly supported Smith for the dem nomination.
