If Mitt Romney had picked former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a safer, conventional choice than Paul Ryan, would he have won the election in 2012? How would he have done against Vice President Biden in that debate? Which state or region would he have been dispatched to campaign more?

You must like Tim Pawlenty. Also, it's not like Paul Ryan was THAT out of the box or unconventional. Unconventional would have been Susana Martinez, Marco Rubio or Bobby Jindal.

But to answer your question, it would have been the most boring ticket since the 50s. Pawlenty may have done a little better than Ryan in a debate, though I'm not sure.

They would probably have sent him out to the Midwest alot.

He might have won Florida and Ohio.  If Ryan couldn't win Wisconsin or Iowa for Romney, Pawlenty isn't winning Minnesota for him.  Florida was so tight that seniors being mad at Ryan could have conceivably made the difference, though.

Florida and Ohio might have flipped and Minnesota might have been a few points closer.

Barely any change. The effect of VP choices are overrated.
