A strange topic, perhaps, but since I entered the forum I've been very interested in strategy games, and I have played in most (if not all) of the election game we've had since 2012. That said, strategy games (geopolitical ones) are the ones that really interest me, and sadly none of them have really prospered (the Crown and Country game that died, my Rome game that never got enough players, and so forth).

The question I mean to ask is, are there other potential players interested in geopolitical games? And if so, any potential ideas that might work and/or get enough players to last?

Excellent! Which historial period would you prefer?

I am definitely, I was even considering starting one a months ago focusing on either the Napoleonic Wars or Seven Years War, although I never really got around to it.

So yeah, I'm definitely game! Smiley

Great! Both sound fascinating, although I guess most players would be more familiar with the Napoleonic Wars, right? (And I wonder, would World War One be a good option?)

I'm in!

Remember that one diplomacy game like back a long time ago?

Maybe we can do something like Diplomacy, but set a bit further in History (1900-2000?)

Or we could do something like Supreme Diplomacy 2010? Or 2020? Or Cold War?

I guess the problem with games set after World War Two is that we are bound to use nukes at some point, which will almost inevitably lead to MAD (although a game that seeks to avoid MAD is also an option). My preferred idea was something very similar to the Crown and Country game set in 1901 (Or 1914, with turns of three months until we reach the inevitable Great War), since I would be willing to host that one (I'm not good at Diplomacy and Supremacy and there's an ongoing Risk game already).

I'd be interested.

I should explain what happened with Crown and Country. I wanted to make it a big world, but I realized after a bit that it was simply too large for me to manage by myself. Having like an assistant mod would have kept the game going. So, don't make my mistake. Keep the number of players limited to like 4 at most. Crown and Country had, I think 6 or 7 and getting everyone's turns and writing the follow up was just too much for one person.

That's certainly understandable, these games require quite a good amount of job on behalf of the GM. Four to Six players seems ideal, and since we already have Oldiesfreak, Spamage, Jack, Cranberry, you and myself we seem to be in pretty good shape to start one of those.

I am more tha willing to take over as GM, and I will ask for an asistant mod as well in order to keep the game flowing.

I am going to formally ask, which of the following dates would all of you prefer? (These are the ones I feel most comfortable with, if you have another in mind please say so)

-1756 (Seven Years War)
-1804 (Napoleonic Wars)
-1901 (Belle Epoque)
-1914 (World War One)
-1936 (Interwar Period)

Belle Epoque it is!

If this game works, then follows Spamage's suggestion of 1700 (the War of the Spanish Sucession is a favourite of mine as well). I will shortly have a main thread up, and there I will present the basic rules (and accept suggestions), introduce the countries and ask for an assistant GM (I will point out that having one will be necesary, I won't have the time to handle everything by myself).
