New Paul Simon Public Policy Institute/Southern Illinois University Senate primary poll

Republicans:

Mark Kirk: 53%
James Marter: 14%
Undecided: 33%

Democrats:

Tammy Duckworth: 52%
Andrea Zopp: 6%
Napoleon Harris: 4%
Undecided: 37%

Kirk approval rating: 39/31
Durbin approval rating: 51/34

__________________________________________________________________
Lincoln Park Strategies poll shows huge Duckworth lead as well:

Duckworth: 64%
Zopp: 6%
Napoleon: 3%
Well this confirms what we've known for awhile, that this will be a Kirk v. Duckworth matchup. I wish they polled a Kirk v. Duckworth general election matchup though, it's weird that they didn't

It may be hard to poll the general election match up accurately for a while. There's a part of the Pub base that is furious with Kirk's vote against the bill to defund Planned Parenthood. Some township GOP organizations went so far as to vote for a letter to censure Kirk. The large undecided in the Pub primary may reflect that, and until that settles down it isn't clear where those Pub voters go in Nov.

The Chicago Sun-Times endorsed Andrea Zopp for the primary.  They're also fine with Duckworth but clearly aren't fans of Napoleon Harris. Tongue

Yep. Harris>Kirk>Zopp

I like Harris OK, but the other two Democrats are Quinn-geworthy.

I'm voting for Tammy Duckworth, but the Sun-Times makes a compelling case

Duckworth is more electable. There are a sizable number of downstate liberals who would normally vote Democrat but won't support anyone with (D-Chicago) after their name.

It seems to me that this race will come down to the left-leaning 17th congressional district. Duckworth would be far better positioned to win that district than would Zopp.

I will be electing Zopp for Senate. She just released a powerful ad blasting NRA. Kirk is part of GOP leadership in DC. McConnell blocked Background checks.

Obama was elected statewide, 3X's. Without Southern Dems. We can elect ZOPP. ZOPP will receive alot of Cook support with Kim Foxx bringing in black vote in March & Nov.

Do you have bad things to say about Duckworth (who I will be electing) or do you simply like Zopp?

I would vote for Foxx if I were casting a ballot in Cook, but Duckworth rather than Zopp

Wow, I've been quite distracted lately to have missed this. If I vote in the Democratic primary, I am sure that I will be voting for Tammy, but I guess I should double check and see why Zopp is getting so much love.

Amen.

Duckworth isnt a strong candidate, she can very well lose to Kirk. That's why Zopp is getting so much love.

Tammy Duckworth is one of the best Senate candidates for the Democrats in 2016.  Andrea Zopp is also a good candidate and she's building name recognition, but it's clear that this is Tammy's race to lose.

She is better than Mark Kirk, but 2010, Kirk defeated a steller candidate in Ginnoulius, he shpuldnt be underestimated either, and we will have a primary on March 15th.

Was Ginnoulius really that great of a candidate? I found it very hard to "pull the lever" for him and almost considered voting for Kirk.

No, he was a terrible candidate, corruption-stained and a banker in a year (2010) when voters were very angry with banks due to the bailouts. Any of the three D candidates would be a better candidate than him.

Well, Chris Kennedy should of been our nominee, but Obama wanted Ginnoulius. Lol, Kennedy had his own money, and wouldn't have had the bank scandal . So, we have to redo the election that was winnable in 2010.
