It's telling that he threw his wife under the bus. Not once do conservatives ever take responsibility, they always find someone else to blame even if it's family.

& quite literally at that!

I spoke directly with Justice #Alito about the flag story in the NYT.  In addition to what's in the story, he told me a neighbor on their street had a "F--- Trump" sign that was within 50 feet of where children await the school bus in Jan 21.  Mrs. Alito brought this up with the neighbor.

According to Justice Alito, things escalated and the neighbor put up a sign personally addressing Mrs. Alito and blaming her for the Jan 6th attacks.

Justice Alito says he and his wife were walking in the neighborhood and there were words between Mrs. Alito and a male at the home with the sign.  Alito says the man engaged in vulgar language, "including the c-word".

Following that exchange, Mrs. Alito was distraught and hung the flag upside down "for a short time".  Justice Alito says some neighbors on his street are "very political" and acknowledges it was a very heated time in January 2021.

"Believe me, 'Mrs.' Alito was just so distraught at our neighbors thinking of us as kind & well-liked. The bare minimum requires bringing the c-word into the discussion! Don't they know why I'm such a crotchety old man!?"

I'm honestly kind of surprised that there's belief that the BJP/NDA will lose a significant portion of seats. Given Modi-Shah's tenacity, what we saw in Surat, public fervor over the Ram temple, my expectation is that at worst they match 2019 or even gain some seats. I might be completely off the mark here but that's my feeling.

I could see them losing some ground in Bihar but making it up in West Bengal.

I do think the BJP will lose some seats overall as keep in mind in 2019 the NDA swept Rajasthan, won 26/28 in Karnataka, won 28/29 in MP, won 39/40 in Bihar so I do think its very possible you could see losses here which cant be made up in West Bengal.

Now the question whether the BJP makes gains or not comes down to whether they can make gains in UP or not as the NDA did lose 9 seats of their 2014 totals there(down from 73 to 64) so if they can get back into the 70s in UP then I think its likely for them to make gains.

At this time though I think we will see the NDA finish somewhere in the low 340s as the total which is higher than 2014 but less than 2019

President Clinton holds final press conference of her first term:

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uwZg_lqpMA

Media Member 1: With the issue of gun control being very divisive and polarizing , how can you ensure that you can get such legislation passed without endangering the program that you ran on in the campaign

Clinton: Well, we just have to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time and that's exactly what we will do. So yes we will work hard to ensure that we can pass legislation that reforms our gun laws, while also focusing on making the investments we need in healthcare, higher education , childcare, green energy and a lot more to improve the long term health of our economy.

In fact I also would like to add that I do not accept the framing that the efforts to reform our gun laws is divisive and polarizing as poll after poll shows an overwhelming majority of Democrats, Independents and even Republicans want us to do that. Now we might not agree on the solutions but thats why its the job of congress to make the compromises needed with each other to mend the disagreements and address an issue the public wants solved. That is exactly what is happening as a group of both democrats and republicans in the house and senate are working behind the scenes to craft such legislation and I am confident in the passage of such legislation.

Media Member 2: With the increases in protests in Syria over the past couple weeks, are you worried about the potential risk of the situation spiraling out of control and if so what would be your administrations action

Clinton: We are closely monitoring the situation in Syria and what we have stated is that we will defend the right of the protestors to protest and the best way to avoid the situation from spiraling out of control is by defending that right. We have many tools we can use such as stricter sanctions and we have made it clear that we will use them if the Syrian Government tries to violate their people's right.

Media Member 2: Many though think the situation could spiral into civil war, do you think that is possible

Clinton: Well I do not think it's wise for us to publicly state what we think or not think is possible and rather its better to use our resources to prevent such a situation from happening to begin with. While yes behind the scenes we have every contingency prepared, I do not think it would be wise for us to state what they are at the current moment.

Media Member 3: Is there any lessons you have learnt from the first that you will take to your 2nd term

Clinton: 100% as the fact is no person can be fully prepared for a job like this. You pretty much learn something new every day from the various departments and agencies you are in charge off , to the nitty gritty of policy, how to work with congress and a lot more. While this might not be a one big lesson , the fact is its the various little things that also matter and in my opinion make you more effective at the job.

This is a deeply concerning and saddening situation. I have family living in New Caledonia and above all I want them to be safe and secure.

As far as how we got to this point, there is plenty of blame to go around. Certainly the independentist position is becoming increasingly untenable after losing three referendums and with a growing share of residents being disenfranchised under the Noumea Accords. Still, at the end of the day the French state is in no position to just bowl over Kanaks' legitimate fears of being increasingly marginalized in their own lands, and there has to be a comprehensive solution to longstanding postcolonial dynamics. These issues aren't going to be solved by deploying the army or banning TikTok, and it's high time the incompetent blowhards in government take a page from Rocard and Jospin and actually take the effort to negotiate a compromise everyone can live with. This situation is too serious to think about it in slogans.

I think that’s sort of the thing though, that you can’t all the third referendum a legitimate democratic excercise. Macron and Guerini rushed it through to get it out of the way as quick as possible, without going through the necessary consultation with the interested parties. As a result of which the independentists boycotted it, feeing somewhat understandably that they were not being given a fair hearing and a result they do not feel that the Nouméa process is complete.

Of course updating the electoral register is a democratic necessity, and it was always supposed to happen post Nouméa. But if Macron had actually gone into this process without his entirely predictable sense of entitled ignorance and high minded contempt and seen Noumea through rather than pissing all over the process then we wouldn’t be here right now.

I'm sure Abbott would pardon him too if he could. Thank God he doesn't have the ability to.
