Howard Dean For America Schedule - January 4th-6th, 2008

"We continue to be the campaign with the momentum. My good friend in the Senate, John Kerry gave us his endorsement after ending his bid, and I think he has done a very good deal for our country. Our work is not yet done, we need to get all of our volunteers, activists, out there and make sure that every one who has a vote to give gives their vote and when all's said in done, democracy is full represented. New Hampshire, we can bring turnout records, and we are going to do so in the primary!"

"The promise of America should not just be for those already well off, but for everybody. The promise of the pursuit of happiness. We need to make it so that everyone has a voice, and everyone has a prayer to make their American dream. Our forefathers worked hard and succeeded, and every passing generation needs the same opportunity. We need to help those in poverty, not belittle them. We need to expand access to basic healthcare, not demolish. We need to offer the best education everywhere, not just to wealthy school districts who can afford it. I promise you change from the status quo, the Bush-Giuliani where money buys speech. I won't fight for them. I'll fight for you!"

Hillary Clinton Debate Answers

You don't have to be passionate about a candidate to vote for them. You simply have to believe that individual is right fit for the office they are seeking, and that's a completely different thing than passion.

I consider myself my own person, both in life and in politics, but if someone wants to call me a liberal, I'm not going to discourage that.

I think we should make sure we have a nominee before we worry about who's going to start endorsing who, as nobody really wants a brokered convention.

Round 12: January 7-8, 2008

The final stretch before the all important New Hampshire primary and the race for the Democratic Nomination couldn't be tighter! After a recount in the Iowa Caucuses, Howard Dean's first place victory was certified, but the polls in New Hampshire continue to show a tight contest between Dean and second place finisher in Iowa Evan Bayh. Hillary Clinton is polling strong at third, followed by Blanche Lincoln, who is pulling up the rear.

John Kerry announced his departure from the race a few days ago, throwing his support behind Dean, giving the Vermont Governor momentum as he makes his closing arguments. The candidates had a chance to face off in a final debate before the primary, hoping to sway those few undecided voters. Pundits gave high points to Dean and Bayh for their performances as well as to Clinton, who has assumed an underdog status in this race and could be the dark horse on primary day. "New Hampshire has always loved the Clinton and she is hoping to count on that with a win on Tuesday. It happened four years ago and she needs to repeat it again." -- James Pindell, WMUR 9.

On the Republican side President Giuliani continues to hold onto an impressive lead over Mark Sanford. Giuliani won another victory in the Republican Primary, with a second win in the Wyoming Caucuses. Giuliani trounced Sanford 61 percent to 39 percent. Sanford has looked to focus his efforts on the upcoming South Carolina Primary, where a win is essential for his campaign to survive. Current polls put Giuliani head 53 percent to 42 percent, but the race is tightening and Sanford is hoping his home state advantage will put him over the top.

Statement from the Giuliani Campaign

President Giuliani would like to thank the great people of Wyoming for giving him their support, their votes, and their delegates. This is a further sign of President Giuliani's impending victory over Governor Sanford in the Republican Primary. The campaign once more asks Governor Sanford to withdraw from the race, allowing the Republican Party to unite around the President and grow our party's lead for the General Election.

Direct Election of the President? Coming Soon to a Ballot Box Near You

More states are taking up discussion of the proposed Popular Vote Amendment, the latest being Maine and Vermont. Pundits believe at the very earliest the measure could go into effect by the 2012 Presidential Election. The measure would abolish the electoral college system of electing the President and Vice President and replace it with a popular vote system. The short of it, the tickets that wins the most votes becomes President and Vice President of the United States. Efforts to abolish the electoral college began in earnest after the 2004 Presidential Election. In his victory, President Giuliani was elected with 307 electoral votes, compared to 195 electoral votes for Joe Biden, while winning a meager 36 percent of the vote, compared to Biden's 34 percent.

Pundits believe, despite the presence of two other candidates on the ballot this year, the race will be tighter between President Giuliani and the eventual Democratic nominee, with Larry Sabot offering his prediction of the popular vote winner, "Whoever wins, Giuliani or the Democrat, it'll be close, probably closer than last time, but I think the winner may squeak by with higher plurality, maybe 39 or 40 percent of the vote."

Polls continue to put Giuliani in the lead over his Democratic and third party challengers. The latest polling average put Giuliani up with 36 percent of the vote in a four man race.

Lincoln Endorsements

Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI)
"Blanche Lincoln is the single best option on the Democratic primary ballot. Democrats across Michigan will soon know the Blanche I know: a fighter for the hardworking people of this country and a proponent of strong progressive values." - to the Detroit Free Press

Rep. John Dingell (D-MI)
"America is ready for a woman as President, and Blanche Lincoln is the woman to support in the Michigan Democratic primary." - to the Ann Arbor paper & Detroit Free Press

Florida Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)
"I wasn't planning to endorse until Blanche jumped into the fray. If the polls can be believed, Floridans already know that she is the best and most qualified and honorable candidate for President. We can rest assured that Blanche will never turn her back on the people of this country." - to the Miami Herald

Frmr. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers
"I can't tell you how many calls I've gotten of gratitude and encouragement. A lot of prominent people- like me, who were once intimidated to endorse anyone but a Clinton, are now ready to break from their cult of personality. Democrats know that Blanche Lincoln is the best candidate to handle our stagnant economy." - to the New York Times; also quoted in TIME, Washington Post, & Hartford Currant

Frmr. Virginia Governor & Senate Candidate Mark Warner
"I can't think of a single reason Democrats can trust Howard Dean. He claimed party loyalty in the last debate, but look at his record. Who did he vote for in 2004? Who did he campaign for? Was it a Democrat? No. Blanche Lincoln has never broken a promise. She was one of the most studious and hardworking members of the U.S. Senate and has executive experience that will guide her hand as President." - to Washington Post, also quoted in The Norfolk Daily News & Richmond Times-Dispatch

TV Ad: Time for Change

It's the same stories every day. Another Giuliani crony. Another problem or lack of action.

I'd like to change that. When I worked in Washington, I was a problem-solver who never forgot where she came from.

At the Gates Foundation, I oversaw a multibillion dollar charity that put new roofs over the heads of students and new technology and knowledge at their fingertips. We opened a public defender office in 50 cities that were lacking, and helped cities update gravel roads that cause costly repairs for hardworking Americans.

I'm running for President for you, not for the red carpet. Not for big donors. I'm running to make sure you have a voice in Washington.

TV Ad: Choices

[Lincoln is sitting in a simple chair, speaking to the camera]

LINCOLN: We've all fought so hard in four years to keep the nation from continuing down the path of total war and paranoia. We've seen time and time again that President Giuliani didn't say a single honest word four years ago, and promise after promise is broken.

In the upcoming caucus, we have plenty of choices. But there's only one real choice: the choice to win. With my background and leadership as an executive and a U.S. Senator, I know I can steer America to without getting us lost at sea. This caucus is about who is at the wheel, and you get to show America who to pay attention to. So I'm asking you to caucus for me. I know I'll do you proud.

NARRATOR: For more information and to talk to your neighbors about caucusing for Blanche visit, www.caucuswithblanche.com/

Web Ad

Following the success of the Christmas lip sync video, the campaign has produced a new web ad that airs when someone in Iowa watches a video on YouTube. The ad promotes caucusing for Blanche, highlighting her support for women and her 5-point anti-poverty agenda for America. A second web ad, micro-targeted to videos watched mainly by the 18-29 crowd, focuses on Blanche's support for college students (student loan reform, tuition reform, more Pell Grants) and universal healthcare. All videos include a link to www.caucuswithblanche.com/

As far as I know, I already got Nelson
