Aren't West Wing-esque programs already a pretty big genre in Britain?

Political thrillers are, yeah. Expensive starry-eyed soaps about politics, less so.

Why don't the Brits just make a comedy show called "The Prime Minister's Question?" I watch the real thing on C-Span every Sunday and I laugh so hard at it that my sides ache. If this was done right with a witty prime minister, bumbling opposition leader and a cast of eccentric parliamentarians than that might be the bets show ever made.

I try to watch it every week to... I will say that it's far more enjoyable to watch than Senate or House proceedings because American debates are so staid and boring. The Brits do it right.

I'd imagine the whole Joe Wilson controversy must have been mystifying to the Brits.
