It's almost like Chelsea Manning's case isn't the end all, be all in the realm of government spying programs. Freeing her will not resolve the issue, and I applaud her for continuing to dedicate herself to this issue.

I'm upset at both, though not as much about the firing squad so long as Manning isn't facing the death penalty.  I thought you were better than this.  Mislabeling her gender is petty and vindictive... which is fine if you were only insulting her.  But you're insulting all trans people.  Maybe you're fine with that.  Somehow I doubt it.

It's no different than when IndyTexas makes snide comments about CCSF having an anal prolapse (because he's gay, get it?).  That's insulting to all gay people, myself included.  And justifying it with "but he's self hating" or "she betrayed our country" doesn't change that.

I get it.  I've had instances where a black man said something really nasty and homophobic to me... my first reaction was to throw everything else out the window and go for the sensitive spot:  his skin color.  He "deserves" to feel hurt and insulted back!  Right?  But what of every other black person on earth?  Do they "deserve" it too?

And even if you were to believe it's a mental illness (I'm not saying you do.. but others here do), is mocking someone the way to make it better?
