What is your opinion of Alabama Senator and Supreme Court justice Hugo Black?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Black

Staunch New Deal supporter and proposed a 30 hour work week. Supported important civil rights legislation in his 34 years on the court.

Started his public career by getting a lay preacher aquitted for murdering a Catholic priest, who had married his daughter to a Puerto Rican, and joined the KKK. Filibustered anti-lynching legislation. Also allowed LBJ to cheat his way into the Senate and did not think there was any constitutional right to marital privacy (Griswold v. Connecticut).

Refused to be burried "in Alabama sacred soil" by the state of Alabama.

a mixed bag. FF generally, though by no means completely, on 1st amendment issues, among other things.  HP for among other his support of Wickard v Filburn, and most especially his authoring of Korematsu.

So you are strictly judging by his SC career?
