Most similar:

Either Ford and Carter or Clinton and Dole.

Most Disimilar:

Reagan and both of his opponets. Not sure which to pick.

Ford and Carter were definitely the most similar ideologically speaking. That's also probably the last election where the Republican nominee was more liberal than the Democrat on certain issues.

Reagan and Mondale probably had the most difference between them. Or possibly Bush-Kerry, but a lot of that was more the larger political atmosphere than the candidates themselves.
