UCSF Outsources One-Fifth of its IT

     UCSF is outsourcing much of its IT and this article gives more examples of companies doing it. This is the hidden pitfall of people claiming that tech is the way and we just need more people pursuing it; while tech workers command a wage premium their jobs are also quick to the chopping block.

     Any businessman tries to minimize costs. If an IT worker is more expensive than other employees, then it behooves the businessman to seek out replacements, whether those means be mechanization, outsourcing, or H-1B visas. Something similar has been happening for a while now in the legal profession and people are just starting to realize that the screws are being put on there.

     The saga continues. It's pretty clear at this point that it's just about not wanting to pay Americans the going rate for these kinds of jobs. This trend is going to continue until either there is major political backlash (Donald Trump tried to tap into this, without much success) or IT is a minimum wage job in the United States.

Public universities that do this should have their funding slashed. This is the type of thing that should be protested about at colleges, not safe spaces and other malarky.

     It's a nice idea, but the way the funding for the UC system works, all campuses would end up being punished were this to be attempted. The state government has no control over how the University of California spends its budgeted allotment.
