My Predictions by 2020:

The teraflop PC will allow for the mechanization of most household tasks by a central console. Also, teraflop PCs will allow for computers to interface with reality (A TiVo that can tell you who made a basket or the rudiment of the story line of your favorite TV show)

There will be SEVERAL multiple petaflop supercomputers capable of simulating sentience (if we had the software)

There will be fully functioning prothesis body parts

There will be drugs that can directly treat alzthimers (sp) and stem cell treatments for most cosmetic defects

A suborbital flight will cost $50000

an orbital flight will cost $1M

someone will have landed on the moon again

The first fuel cell cars will hit mass production

By 2040:

Someone will have landed on Mars

petaflop computers will be available to most consumers (whatever that has in store for us)

Organ transplants will be plentiful

a flight into space will only cost a few thousand dollars

There will be a Concorde replacement that makes Concorde look like a prop plane

There should be some sort of lunar base

What are your predictions?

There will be robots.

We will have sex with them.

We won't realize what we've done until it's too late.

No significant technological change, but a lowering of the standard of living due to scarce/more expensive resources and right-wing political redistribution.  Just like the last 12 years.

So, we will be conservative.

There will be a means by which I can reach through my computer monitor, grab Opebo and shake the heck out of him.   Grin

We will be mastering the fine art of making fires with rocks and wood and of sharpening sticks into spears.
