I went to a townhall meeting for one of my legislators.  What struck me was the number of Socialists in the audience.

I'm just wondering how these people get these insane ideas and why they want to be just cogs in the giant government machine?

I'd say it's their fault, but their parents must also take some responsability for raising them.

You live in a western capitalist country, ensuring you will never see you ideas implemented and therefore will never have to suffer the consequences of your failed ideology.  Throw in a desire to claim moral superiority over your fellow citizen, but never the courage to put yourself at risk of experiencing the life you recommend for others, and you have a socialist.

It's quite easy, really: make fundamentally incorrect assumptions about humans' desires and motivations and then go from there.

How do you become bi-polar? I don't know, but it's the same idea (mental illness).

I haven't been really screwed over, but I have determined that most HR people in the tech industry are incompetent.

But you're a socialist. I thought one became socialist through being screwed over by a corporation?

Well, that's a cause.
I'm sure I'd have a might higher respect for corporations if they had smarter HR people.

I used to be kind of right of center but after I was in high school and started to hang out with new people that were mostly leftist my views started to rapidly shift to the left. That's how I became a socialist.

Er... what do you mean by "Socialist"?
Your definition of caring and wanting to build a better tomorrow together.

Here is how I became a socialist:

- I want to improve the world.

- I want to have a better future for my kids.

- I want to help those in need.

- I want to maximize an individual's freedom.

- I want to be compassionate.

That is why I'm a socialist.

Well said, I hate those kind of meaningless, clichéd, sweeping statements, both left-wing and right-wing.

As much as people can be oppressed, no system makes us work like cogs in machines!

(I doubt a lot of people are going to agree with me on that...)

If you want to meet some real bright ones try calling the Internal Revenue Service.
