I'm fine with permanent residency for aliens who can pass a basic citizenship test and have no criminal record, so long as they are permanently barred from actual citizenship. They'd have all the same rights and benefits aside the right to vote (a fair punishment), and any descendants of theirs born within the US would of course be natural born Americans. If they truly are coming here for a better life(and not a better bottom line), they'd gobble this deal up the second it's offered.

Criminal aliens of course will still be deported, hopefully at Obama like levels.

He never, ever posts sources or even links. "I just heard Greta say it" is not a freaking source.

Yes I do, when I get it from the Internet (maybe once or twice I forget to paste the link).

But this was from TV, and it's been Breaking News for HOURS. Just check the news. It's why I put "Breaking"

And she didn't simply say it, they've been talking about it all hour and still are.

It would have been smarter to hold off on this until later on in his presidency, his base foaming at the mouth over this was inevitable.

"immigrants" was shortened because I couldn't fit one more character into the thread title.

Significant victory for the Democratic Party if true. These people will be given citizenship the moment the Democratic President puts his hand down from the oath of office. I can already see the bill running through Congress to create a generation of Democratic voters.

The Left will not let this deal stand. This is Trump's capitulation, if true.

Normally I'd be infuriated but this means the death of the Alt Right so I'm down.

Good. It's crazy and harsh to round up 11 million people, many of whom have been here for years, have citizen family, friends, coworkers. If he actually pushed this through it'll be harder to see him as a racist, it shows he has some compassion. But I'm still highly skeptical he's serious about it.

You have France as a avatar. I assumed given the large number of conservative foreigners we have.

That said hilariously the God Emperor turning on his promises? Neber would've guessed.

Technically. Part of my "deal" (if anyone would listen) is that in return for permanent residency, you lose your chance to aspire for full citizenship. Dreamers would be dealt with like any other illegal who applies for the residency status.

As long as it is something that respects legal immigrants as well as national sovereignty (i.e. no pathway to citizenship), legalization is something I can live with.

But this has the potential to create a huge underclass.

Plus it's a ticking time bomb for nationalists once a Democrat gets the Presidency.

Underclass? Permanent residents have virtually all the rights of US citizens except the right to vote. They can collect public benefits, contribute to political campaigns and work in government jobs including in the military. They're also subject to the same responsibilities, such as Selective Service and worldwide taxation.

You think Rubio would even attempt to make a serious push for immigration enforcement? The others were such empty-suits that even if Trump betrayed every single campaign promise, I'd still have no regrets about voting for him since he was the only candidate in the race running on that platform.

I do love how Trump's opposition sneer "told you so!" at every apparent betrayal, yet still are also crying henny-penny about the incoming second Holocaust. Just today at FSU I saw fliers that said "resist the Trump/Pence REGIME" or something like that. Make up your mind. Is he a liberal puppet who ran to purposely throw the election to Hillary that shows how stupid we in the Trumpletariet are? Or is he Hitler 2.0 who is going to throw all the blacks, browns, gays, and Jews into camps? Make your minds up guys Tongue.

It'd be a generational underclass. They'll die off eventually; their children will be citizens and they'd have every right minus voting, so I fail to see how it would lock their families into a cycle of poverty or anything like that. At least not more so than they would be now, anyway.

And of course, there needs to be some punishment. Should we pin a medal on them because they committed a crime? They should be grateful just to be allowed to stay.

Called it months ago. They recognize being anti-minority is going to backfire if Latinos turn out and continue voting Democratic. So ergo this.

I doubt the compromise will ever happen (Trump's base would revolt) but can you imagine the millions of new Democrats if a future Democratic President legalized them all?

This is hilarious to watch and I can only imagine Trump's base going apoplectic.

That really depends if he gets them (illegal arrivals) out of the country before the next election.

If they are still in the country, what you are saying is a strong point.

They're not gonna leave. They're dominant in a lot of healthcare and hospitality and low level menial and food picking jobs. The end game could be that we tighten the screws on future immigration but these 11 million become US citizens basically by 2025. That's my prediction.

The Democratic Party would be honestly very happy with that deal for a variety of reasons.
