In order of preference:

1. Brewers
2. Tigers
3. Phillies
4. Rangers
5. Braves
6. Diamondbacks
7. Yankees
8. Red Sox

The Rays would be at the top and the Cardinals somewhere around the middle.

You really prefer us more compared to Rangers or Braves?

I don't have any particular hate for the Phillies. I will forever be grateful to Philadelphia for standing between Los Angeles and a pennant in 2008 and 2009. I put the Phillies above the Rangers because I prefer NL teams in general to AL teams, and because seeing the Bushes lose last year was pretty cool. (I don't like to mix politics and sports, but the Rangers started it by having them throw out the first pitches before Game 3.) The Braves bother me because they always win. Besides, all Giants fans bear a grudge toward the Braves for 1993, when the Giants went 103-59 and didn't make the playoffs.

Every year I ask for forgiveness for having supported the Red Sox in 2004.

Heh 1993.  We won the East Division and ultimately the Pennant with 97 wins (by contrast).

The 1973 Mets won 82 games and the pennant. The Giants won 88 games that year and finished in third place. There is no justice in this world.

Well, Houston is a pretty good team—oh, the 4-3 record the Astros had against the Giants wasn't representative of the quality of the team? Well, crap.

Because that World Series made Red Sox Nation, which is vilest of all that the media has forced upon us.

Although I'm a Red Sox fan, I hope the Yankees beat the Rays in their final regular season series.

The Bombers have won the division anyway, so the least they can do is keep the Rays out of the picture.

Maybe you missed the part where the Yankees hate your team and wouldn't be inclined to them any favors. Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankees_–_Red_Sox_rivalry

Tongue

Uh, I already know that. Why do you think I began with "although"?

Besides, the Yankees are making the postseason anyway; the Red Sox don't gain anything from the Yankees losing. However, so that we get the wild-card and the Rays don't, I'm supporting the Yankees as part of a strategic move. Basically, I simply hope the Rays lose--even if the Yankees improve their record.

My comment was regarding the second part of your post. That's why the Yankees won't go all out to deny the Rays.  Tongue

Somehow I doubt that's an important consideration.

Seeing Derek Holland walk in a run brings back memories.

Anyway, don't you guys love small sample sizes?

I hate that the playoffs exist. Ideally there would be two teams in the postseason, although four is acceptable.

The win probability graph is disappointing as far as walk-off grand slams go:

By definition, wouldn't the win probability graph be disappointing for any walk-off grand?  A team only needs one single, walk, or balk to win and unless there are two outs, there are a number of sacrifice possibilities as well.

Only if the game is tied before the grand slam.

As far as fanbases go, I'd argue that Milwaukee's is a lot better, but whatever. I don't really care who wins this one either way.

Man, and I was following baseball for the first time, not to make fun of my hometown team, but to actually hope they continued to do well.

Why the disappointment? Why? Oh why? Oh why?

You have football, so there's nothing to complain about.

Congrats to St. Louis for playing the best baseball in September and October.

I would appreciate it if at least one round of playoffs would be canned. But no, we need more.
