Also possible, but Allen saw a competitive-ish race coming and the outcome hinged heavily on a single campaign gaffe.  I don't see Cruz making a mistake that severe.

Except maybe for his recent comments on The Simpsons.

Wait wait. You people actually think Cruz is gonna lose? Demographics or midterms be damned, that just isn’t happening.

I think the general consensus is that it's unlikely, but possible in a big enough D wave.  As opposed to someplace like Utah or Nebraska, where the R is going to win regardless of the size of the D wave.  Personally I'd put Cruz's chances of winning at about 85% at this point.

No, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he only wins by 2-4 after everyone expected to win by double digits.  He's the most likely Republican incumbent to be Warner 2014 with the parties reversed.

Cruz is still going to win, probably like Mark Warner in 2014 but 1-2% better.

Most people on here aren't expecting O'Rourke to win, but Cruz in my opinion does have a pretty high chance of winning by an underwhelming margin (in the single digits) which is not something for the GOP to be gloating about by the way.

Lying Ted won in 2012 with 56% of the vote, Trump won with 52%. It's totally possible.

I think the most likely outcome is Cruz winning by somewhere between 5 and 8 points, maybe closer to the low end of that spectrum. Something like 51-46 would be unsurprising for this race and would be the closest statewide race in TX since 2002.

O'Rourke will win, possibly by a comfortable margin. Goodbye, Sweaty Teddy.

This.  I also wouldn't be surprised if he gets Blanched in 2024, though I know that's a bit of an out there view.

Does anyone else find the tweets that are clearly written by a soulless staffer trying to imitate Trump’s style, but still attempting to do meet and potatoes politics incredibly sad?

Let me guess....you noticed the proper punctuation, capitalization, and grammar yet also noticed the Trumpian use of the word "many friends" rofl

Oh no I meant it in precisely the opposite sense - it’s sad to me because it’s this pale imitation of something weird and idiosyncratic and oddly vital. It’s sorta like seeing your neighbor - an old guy - stuffed into a retirement home by his crappy kids because he says loopy stuff and the kids want to get around to selling the house.

And like yes you hate his guts and yeah there was that time he tried to shoot you with his rifle that he somehow kept from Korea, and you can’t count the number of horribly racist things you’ve heard him shout at random passers by, but it’s still sad and wrong to see him go out in ~this way~

That and like, I am willing to bet literally my life savings that Trump has no idea in heck who Greg Abbot is, much less Lt. Gov Dan Patrick and Atty Gen Ken Paxton.

Even for me, an enlightened poster who already knows that O'Rourke will win, these numbers are pretty stunning.

O'Rourke has raised 3x what Cruz has since the beginning of the year.
