After the Social Liberals lost so clearly to the old Best Party people in Bright Future I think this must be a reasonable way to describe the structure of the current Icelandic party system:

Alternative progressives:

Pirate Party
Bright Future
Democracy Watch
Dawn
Citizens Movement
The Movement

Traditional left wing:

Solidarity
Left Greens

Traditional centre-left:

SDA

Centre-right:

Progress Party
Independence Party

Libertarian right wing populists:

Liberals
Right Greens

Interesting. But what is the purpose of this thread within the "Individual Politics" board?

It is an individual perspective on/view of a topic, which people can comment on or disagree with etc.

Awesomely enough, while we are still 2 years from an election, the Pirate Party is currently leading national polling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icelandic_parliamentary_election,_2017

Yes, I have written a lot about that in the Great Nordic Thread on IG. There is also a more detailed breakdown of the last Gallup poll with age cohorts and constituency numbers.

Bright Future descends from the Best Party, which was a member of the international Pirate Party (although an unorthodox one..), so with the recent takeover of BF you could combine the two parties votes as being for pro-Pirate causes at this point.
