I'll just note it's rule number one of any political spouse, male or female, don't publically oppose your significant other's policies.
It certainly doesn't help anyone look like a united family. The Clintons have been separate enough to not be tied into each other's views. I believe it's helped with Obama being president instead of her as for the general election because it allows Hillary to have more time since her husband was in office. Obama was able to make the argument in debates "well sometimes I can't tell who I'm running against."
