I remember in 2004, that people were really worried that Bush, if he won at all, and especially as convincingly as he did, would be able to invade Iran, overturn Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion and privatize social security to pay for it all. None of this stuff actually happened except that particular bans on late term abortion were able to be pushed through, the war in Iraq remained unresolved for perhaps 4 more years, campaign contribution limits were able to be circumscribed, and that bankruptcy became means-testing.

I also remember in 2008 on how Obama was going to socialize medicine, let taxes skyrocket, and create a civilian forced disarmament program. What really has happened is that its much easier to get insurance and to keep insurance even if the price of it hasn't been full address for those who are still expected to pay in full for it. We, however, did get Gay Marriage, the mainstreaming of marijuana as a political issue, the end of our large-scale participation on in Iraq and modest tax increases on the rich. There has been no change in Federal gun laws. On some issues we have slipped to the right. Union participation is near record lows and a national conversation has been sparked on old social issues such as civil rights and voting rights.

With Hilary, there won't be much change, I don't think.
What do you think will actually happen with Trump if he wins? Do you think he will "fundamentally change" our nation or do you think we will just got more of what W gave us?

There could be major change with either candidate if they get someone in the SCOTUS.

The biggest change from either of them will be the Supreme Court.  538 ran an article saying that we will likely have either the most liberal or the most conservative court of the modern era in 2020.

Do you really that Roe or CU would be overturned by 2020 or 2025 if either got elected?

If Trump let's the Pence run the show, and with a super conservative SC, is it crazy to say they would make a push for Roe?

We once had 7 Republicans on SCOTUS and still nothing happened. Still though, they may have learned and won't be letting any more Stevens, Souters, or O'Conners on SCOTUS. The two guys Bush got were conservative and very conservative.

If Breyer becomes the median voter, the next few SCOTUS terms could be very interesting.

But in terms of legislation, nothing of importance will change.

Trump might not actually get anymore vacancies if McConnell's court packing stunt works. Ginsburg is 83. Stevens was 80 in 2000. He may have to wait post-2020. I mean, do you expect Obengefell or Roe gone if Trump wins?

No meaningful change will happen as long as we continue voting for the lesser of two evils.
