Reid plays his role as apologist for the administration well. He allows the fiction to be peddled that 'they couldn't pass anything without 60 votes in 2009-10' in spite of the fact that as Majority Leader the whole time, he could have simply held an up or down vote on abolishing the filibuster and then crammed through what it was the liberals wanted to see passed. The fact that he didn't should tell you everything that you need to know about the desire of the Obama administration to see things like universal healthcare (forget single payer, I'm talking about the much celebrated public option that the Democrats claimed they couldn't pass), climate change mitigation legislation, card check, a higher minimum wage, etc. get enacted as law.
