That Madrid bump in the second round is pretty weird. Tactical voting run wild?

I'm very happy. Though I do hope it won't derail my home city of Glasgow's bid for the Commonwealth Games in 2014

I dunno enough about Commonwealth Games...how big are they?...but if they're really big, and there's some serious competition...count on it.

Pretty big; getting the Commonwealth Games did wonders for Manchester's regeneration. IIRC Stringer regards Manchester getting it as his biggest achivement as council leader (and he did a *lot*).

I hear they'll build the Olympic Stadium on some poisonous waste ground in South Hackney?

The poisonous waste ground is in West Ham IIRC (Stratford) but South Hackney and all that'll get a lot of stuff; the whole area by the River Lea (poisonous waste ground since all the factories closed down. And they closed down a loooooong time ago...) is going to be redeveloped. Newham needs a leg up, so this is great news.

They're very big, but normally only one of the UK, Canada and Australia put up a candidate; then sometimes a lesser member of the commonwealth will also put in a candidate and it gets competitive. But Melbourne was the only candidate for 2006; nobody bothered trying to beat us Tongue IIRC, New Delhi (2010 games) had a brief competition from Toronto, but it didn't really last.

New York 16 (eliminated)

The number of votes increased from
97, 100, 103, to 104 in the 4th round.  Did some IOC members show up late?

The main reason is that IOC members from the countries running could not vote while their city was still in the running.

It hasn't been in Canada for a while. It should return to its homeland Smiley
