Is the Union party's opposition to Civil Rights legislation a result of the left-wing collapse in the South and a proto-Southern strategy? Also, given how the Great Depression re-solidified the South for the real life Democrats, and support began to fade for them as older Democratic voters died off, I take it political developments under the Mason-Dixon line have differed drastically from OTL.

As well, given Borah's real life death date in 1938, are there concerns regarding his health, and perchance attempts to replace him with someone similarly ideologically minded? In that vein, I nominate Vandenberg/Walsh for the 1940 American Union ticket, given Walsh's isolationism.
