This view is only something that can get you elected if you are in West Virginia or Mississippi.

I, I don't even know what the hell to say to this.

http://ava.prri.org/#lgbt/2016/States/lgbt_ssm/3

A majority of residents in those 2 states think same sex marriage should be illegal.
In all the other states, that is not the case.

I hope the DSCC does totally write this race off. If turnout is low like it was during the first round, it could help Jones pull an upset. Scott Brown all over again.

Scott Brown was elected in a relatively high turnout election.

Thinking it should be illegal is different than wanting gays executed, which is what you implied the people would accept.

Roy Moore is a nasty, hateful person. That's a step too far, even in Alabama.

No he wasn't. He got less votes in 2010 than Romney did in 2012, and Romney lost by a massive margin. It was a very very low turnout election.

Warren beat him in a higher turnout election.

He's going to win because not enough people in Alabama care about rhetoric against gay people. It's the Bible Belt for Christs sake.

Another 2016 poll had only 20-some percent of Tennesseans approving of gay marriage, not 46%

Outrage from Pink News & half the Democrats on Atlas, not sure if it'll push back Moore in the race. Strange has a lot of money still in but there's not a whole lot of room that Strange could put himself in if he tries to put himself as the 'LGBT-friendly Republican'.

After all, Strange filed an anti-gay marriage amicus curiae brief in 2015.

I would actually like to see audio of it.  I wonder if this site has an agenda and is mis-representing something or changing the context (since we don't actually see him ever mention execution in the OP).

FWIW, Bret Baier mentioned Roy Moore on Special Report earlier today, and didn't mention this at all. All that story talked about was his popularity in Alabama and how well he's been doing despite conventional wisdom and Strange's establishment support.

Bret Baier doesn't want to give Jones any leverage. If Strange was safe in the primary, I could see Baier bringing up ExecutionGate to laugh at Moore even more, but given that there is a significant risk of Moore being nominated, representatives of the GOP must avoid criticizing him to avoid helping Jones gain support.

Bret Baier isn't exactly a "representative of the GOP".  According to a Harvard study, his show is virtually right down the middle- 51% anti-Trump and 49% pro-Trump (which makes it the most right-wing flagship telecast, but it is ever so slightly left-leaning).

Most sane people wouldn't reply "I don't know" if asked if they believe gay people should be executed, but y'know.

Also, anti-sodomy laws were federally abolished as recently as 2003.  I don't know anyone who supports bringing anti-sodomy laws back, but it wouldn't surprise me that such people still exist.

Moore is disgusting, but you all are completely misreading the line.

"Well I don’t, you know", which is the same as saying, "As you know, I don't... (support executing gay people)".

That is different from saying, "well I don't know", which is what you guys are reading it as.

But seriously, why let a little thing like grammar get in the way of a good crusade of righteous outrage. Tongue

This belief - that gays should be put to death - is much more popular than people may realize.  If you did a poll, you would find people supporting it in states like Alabama.  The level of pure hatred is very high.
Most people who say they support this kind of thing wouldn't actively support it. My grandmother said she did (and ever since I didn't talk about the issue with her), but I doubt she'd be ok with killing me if I told her I'm gay...

I'll admit to misreading what he said in the article, though obviously the fact that Moore seems okay with anti-sodomy laws is a testament to how awful he is.

Which thankfully isn't to say it's going to matter much in the grand scheme of things.  Moore will likely have little real influence in the Senate and McConnell certainly has no reason to treat him charitably.

Same.
He's still an evil homophobe, though. Since when did "I don't think gays should be put to death" become our standard? He still implied support for anti-sodomy laws and the tone of his words is very apologetic towards the idea of killing.
