According to Weasel Silver, the redefinition desegregation of marriage was a done deal in Maine. He kept harping how the polls all showed the referendum was going to fail, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Even on election night, he was crowing about how good it looked for the redefinition desegregation of marriage because of the numbers in Portland.

I'd like to make a few points about the subjective nature of statistical polling (and the bias that allows in even individuals attempting to be highly objective), the inevitability of bad calls, etc....but I don't think CaDan particularly cares.

Also, as an aside, what did Nate Silver do to inspire such bile? It's not like he's some controversial partisan firebrand, he's a statistician.

Rasmussen has an extremely good track record.

Does he?  I thought he's had a fairly mediocre record for the last few cycles.

No.  In 2010, his Congressional estimate was right on the money. In the Senate races he only polled the races sporadically, or when he was paid to poll them. As a result, snapshots of races well before they closed showed some variation from the final results.
