I guess there's an artificial post-election glow. Because I approve of him even less than I did before after seeing the way he's handling these fiscal cliff "negotiations."

1012 adults polled:

42-51 disapprove

162 non-registered adults polled:

47-42 approve

850 registered voters polled:

41-54 disapprove

...

The latest Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone with a national random sample of 1,012 adults age 18 and older from July 25 to 30, 2013. This sample has a margin of error of + 3.1 percent. The poll was conducted by the Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

Could it be that voters are finally realizing Obama has no second-term agenda? If so, it's about nine months too late. Sad

I think it would be better for the Democratic brand if it was, to be honest. Now people are actually genuinely dissatisfied with big government overreach and inefficiency.

Your car is garbage. The state will destroy it in a few months. You can either buy one that's more expensive or make up for your indiscretion by paying a new, ridiculous tax.

Sorry, but that's what we're dealing with. "None of this really happened, except for" is not a very inclusive statement. The people who are losing their plans form a pretty big group. They were lied to. They were told everything would be okay because the sympathetic government would manage everything fairly and responsibly. Now people are seeing for themselves that the government can't be trusted to make good on its basic promises, let alone actually run things with any kind of efficiency. Obama's numbers aren't sinking because of a botched website rollout; they're sinking because this whole situation has nurtured growing distrust in big government.

So basically what Bandit has been saying in this thread is that every poll is wrong.

Well yeah, I don't think anyone is meaning to compare the scale or impact of the events. It's just that the slip is similar. Some folks think the numbers will stay where they're at because I think what we're seeing now with Obama is very much in line with the seeds of doubt Romney planted last year. It wasn't enough to lose Obama the election because people trusted him and wanted to give him a chance, but the warnings ("weak manager," "poor business sense," "in over his head," etc.) are looking a lot more credible. That's all. People have erred on the side of giving Obama the benefit of the doubt, but somewhere along the line over the last two months, there's been a straw that broke that camel's back. At least that's how I see it. Maybe I am being too optimistic; who knows?

It's been so long coming that people probably believe the recovery is occurring in spite of Obama, not because of him.
