As for me, I voted for the French language since it sounds better and since, in my opinion, it has a nicer history.

My own of course.

I had French lessons in school and was not doing so well (unlike in English).

The one that uses every letter to the drop, no silent BS.

The one with a neutral, no silly decisions between what is manly or womanly where such decisions are not necessary.

The one that has lots of sounds besides snooty, and at worst always sounds angry.

The one that doesn't have the silly Romantic [pun intentional] idea of putting the adjective after the noun (I disliked Spanish in Grade School for the exact same reason, and I balk at having to do that if I ever try to pick up Italian)

The one more likely to make Icelandic (should I ever revisit that whim again) easy to learn just because of resemblances.

Und so....Deutsch natuerlich! Nicht Franzoesisch!

Also, French reminds of the home schooled years, which were not pleasant at all.

En tant que Romand, je préfère naturellement le Français.

Although it helps that most of the German I hear is the particularly ugly, phlegmy Schwitzerduutsch.

German, although I don't like to favor some languages over others.

French is the best language in the world, way better than German.

If we were only talking about the written language, I would choose French in a heartbeat.  Not only is the grammar simpler than German, but I just find the entire structure of the language to be more intuitive.

However, when it comes to the spoken language, the answer is obviously German.  German pronunciation is simply easier (despite the ch sound), and I can tell when one word begins and the other ends.  French is just a bunch of random syllables strung together.

On the whole, German wins out.

Harsh > snooty and trying to spit.

German has its hidden charms and French can be annoying as sh*t, but I'll still go with the one I can speak fluently.

German it is!

It's a bit higher on my list of "languages to learn", where French does not appear at all.

This is the best defense of the German language ever. Wink

The rest is fair enough, but you can't be serious here. There is nothing more random and silly than German gendering of words. The fact that it has three genders (which could in itself be great if feminine and masculine pronouns/articles were actually limited to inherently feminine and masculine nouns, instead of being still slapped onto fundamentally agendered nouns despite the existence of neutral pronouns/articles) only makes things more silly and convoluted.

I was going to say Angry > Douchey , but this works too.

Having studied both of them I prefer the punchier sounds of German, though French has the commendable quality of being easier to speak.

Proudly of German heritage, but I think French sounds beautiful.  Oddly enough, I think English spoken with a German accent sounds by far the best of non-native speakers.
