I will try and act surprised as Trump gets away with denigrating welfare voters while Hilary Clinton was hounded for her deplorables remark.

Echoing Ronald Reagan remarks about welfare recipients buying cadliacs at the 1976 Republican National Convention. Playing to the base of well to do closest racists who tell you they're not racists.

I mean, denigrating people on welfare has been a Republican trademark since it was first created. Unfortunately, large swaths of the country share the same view of welfare recipients (and always have).

Some of his best counties are also heavily reliant on welfare.

You're not wrong, but also not really the point. Republicans get to denigrate all types of voters and there's a shrug from the press. But if a Dem dare say anything close to that, it's a Defcon meltdown.

Yeah, I know, and I agree. It's very hypocritical.

Hmmm... composition effects are complicated here.  My understanding is Trump's very best demographic is something like "people who are not personally on welfare but living in or next to a community that is majority on welfare"?

Links to the article seem to cycle between a longer, less flattering portrayal, and a shortened one that is more friendly to Mr. Trump.

The quoted comments, along with notes calling Trump's speech "obscene" and comparing the Biden administration to Nazis have been removed from the short version. The headline has been changed. The revised story is less than half as long as the original, and paints a far more positive picture of Donald Trump.

Ah, union bashing. Trump showing his true face as an enemy of the working class once again, not that that wasn't already apparent when he "supported" the auto strike by speaking at a right to work sponsored event a few months back. While the GOP base becomes more working class each year, there's clearly still decades to go before the Vosem faction is dislodged.

Unless they get another celebrity with universal name recognition who can plausibly distance himself from the Tea Party corporate GOP, I think Republicans are really going to struggle in future presidential elections. That disastrous 2022 roster is the future of the GOP post-Trump. I simply cannot imagine the likes of JD Vance or Blake Masters beating someone like Whitmer or Shapiro or Warnock. Even with Harris they'd probably lose.

The irony here is that the people who tend to rely most on welfare tend to be some of the lowest propensity voters.

Same thing with "Dems are smuggling voters across the southern border". In 2020, Trump literally tripled his raw vote total in many border communities - if anyone was smuggling votes across the border it'd be Republicans.

Not sure how welfare can vote or cheat. Don's breaking Elton John records and playing the organ again with this word salad.

Interesting, a "47%" moment.

Obviously this won't harm him how it did Romney, and he may get 47% of the popular vote in the end.

Some of his best counties are also heavily reliant on welfare.

It's only "welfare" if it's in urban areas, and you know exactly what that means.

The majority of his counties are heavily reliant on welfare.

So my question is ... Do these supporters of him, care that he says things like this about them?
Why do they support him, when he degrades them?

Trump Engaged in Suspect Tax Schemes as He Reaped Riches From His Father

Trump’s Housing Hypocrisy

Quote
Trump is wealthy today because of government housing subsidies. While still a young man, he inherited his father Fred's real-estate empire, worth tens of millions of dollars. The senior Trump made his fortune by building middle-class housing financed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). In the 1930s, Fred Trump built single-family homes for middle class families in Queens and Brooklyn, using mortgage subsidies from the newly created FHA in order to obtain construction loans. After his real-estate business fell on hard times, he revived his firm during World War II by constructing FHA-backed housing for U.S. naval personnel near major shipyards along the East Coast. After the war, he continued to rely on FHA financing to construct apartment buildings in New York's outer boroughs.

Etc. ad naseaum

We all have known for several years now that he’s the most pathologically brazen liar and shameless hypocrite certainly in modern American political history, if not all of it (and he very well might be).
