Apparently, Ron Paul has enough delegates to force the Romney's choice for Veep to go through a floor fight due to a rule change. That means that the delegates can reject Romney's nominee and enter Paul's name into nomination for veep. That would mean the RNC would have to poll every single delegate on the floor of the convention's choice for Veep and go to a Roll Call Vote that could take up a better portion of a day.
For example, if Romney chose Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) as his vice presidential pick, but the Paul forces leveraged their impressive foothold in several states to nominate Paul from the floor, then someone like Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla) could emerge as the preferred pick for many delegates as the convention goes into a roll call vote. And Rubio's name could be entered into nomination, in addition to Paul's, if a plurality of five states voted to nominate him. And he already has Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, Maine, while Louisiana is still in doubt.
Read about it here. Wouldn't that be cool AF?

Every four years there's talk of something interesting potentially occurring at a convention, and as usual we are invariably disappointed.

He's right. Its always fun to talk about a potential disaster at a convention but since George McGovern's late night acceptance speech it just hasn't happened.

To be fair, this is the first time a major and reasonably successful entryist campaign has been pulled, so if there IS going to be a convention full of crazy shenanigans in our lifetime, this one will probably be it.

How many genuine paultard delegates are there, anyway? I know they at least number in the triple digits, so there's enough of them to drown out Romney's acceptance speech by loudly chanting out parliamentary motions or whatever they're up to these days.

So not as many as he had hoped, but still a sizable enough minority to maybe cause a bit of drama.

If it did happen, Romney's choice would still win. Paul and Romney have a cozy relationship, if Paul really has any influence, things will be taken into account before Romney announces his choice.

I get the feeling that Romney will appease the Paulites by letting one of the up-and-coming congressional candidates from their faction have a major speech at the convention.

Realize that the ninja delegates aren't the campaign's doing, though.

Paul has 300 delegates who are known. Another 300 might be ninjas, and they are the wildcards. Paul will have enough of a block to cause some chaos if he so chooses, but since Romney has always been friendly with Paul, he will likely give Paul a speaking slot.

The R3volution has not ended.....

It has only begun!

The only reason that the Paul-Father isn't running 3rd party is because of Rand's future in the party. But Ron hasn't even endorsed Romney. They really aren't close, Paul had a lot of attack ads on Romney but the media didn't really cover them. And Paul hasn't even endorsed Romney and is having a shadow convention the day before the RNC.

Paul attacked Romney, and Romney attacked Paul throughout the race. But Romney is at least willing to hear out Paul, even if he does not change a thing. Thats why Paul likes Romney so much. It is not a "shadow" convention like the last one-its a simple festival. Maybe he will announce his endorsement of Romney/Johnson/Goode/nobody at the festival?

Paul will likely get a speaking slot-especially if he is declared the winner in Louisiana, in which he would be allowed to be placed in consideration. If that does not happen, Romney will want to shore up the Paulites like me, by granting Paul a speaking slot, even if he does not endorse Romney in particular.

McCain being unable to pick Lieberman due to a potential floor fight was interesting, even if it occurred behind closed doors.
