Actually, I'd go further and say it's an example of how the party system has outlasted its usefulness. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I believe the No Labels (http://www.nolabels.org/) and Open Primaries (http://www.openprimaries.org/) organizations represent steps in the right direction...
