Green presidential candidate Jill Stein won 90% of the vote in Ohio's Green Party convention, while Roseanne Barr won 5%. I might post other Green presidential race news in this thread if I remember -- I don't post here very often.

I don't think the Green Party is really going for the Roseanne demographic.

Roseanne was, of course, running largely to create media attention for Stein.

I seriously doubt nominating Roseanne would've produced any noteworthy improvement for the Green Party. But I suppose third parties are jokes here anyway (even more so for the Presidential races), so there's really no use in nominating a "serious" candidate over a joke one.

Roseanne isn't much different than Trump, and I don't see what makes someone like Herman Cain a more serious candidate than Jill Stein, so maybe not only third parties in this country are jokes. Smiley

They would've received more votes.  Not that they'd win.  If anything, it might hurt Democrats in a very close state, but I don't see that being an issue for the Democrats anyway.

Ah, very true, that. Tongue

Yeah, I don't doubt that they'd have performed better overall, but is Roseanne really that active or significant politically that she could actually bring about a marked increase? I confess to being totally ignorant on Roseanne. I know, shame on me. Wink

Is Roseanne a likely running mate for Stein, then?

I actually met Jill Stein back during her run for Secretary of State in 2006. It makes me feel bad to see someone who could do so much good in politics, and yet is aligned with a party that guarantees she'll never go anywhere beyond the fringe.

Ah well.

Stein does seem to be running  a pretty good campaign(for a Green) I still think it's infinitely better to work inside the two major parties, but I respect her for trying to build a new force, especially given the... interesting reputation that the Greens have.

I hope she can crack 1%. But I thought Badnarik would too in 2004, and he didn't even come close. So I'm not optimistic.

Third-parties always go for party activists. Dr. Stein has been active in the Green Party for years and that is why she will beat the tar our of Barr. I would not be surprised if Gary Johnson is sent packing at the Libertarian Convention by a non-entity party activist like Carl Person, R. Lee Wrights or Roger Gary.

Third-parties have loyalty to those who stick to their lost cause, and that can be respected in a Miguel de Cervantes kind of way.

The example of the Green Party's flirtation with Nader is instructive.  Going for a big name with no brand loyalty or identity with your brand is hurtful, not helpful to the development of a political party.

Being a ballot-qualified party, the Arizona Greens held a presidential primary on Tuesday. Note that Roseanne Barr joined the race too late to be printed on the ballot. However, Kent Mesplay, recognized by the national Green Party as a presidential candidate, was on the ballot. 506 votes were cast. Results:

It's a lesson the Libertarian Party has yet to learn, as they are intent generally on whoring out their ballot line to anyone even somewhat famous, whether it be Bob Barr, the abortive Howard Stern gubernatorial campaign, or even "seriously considering" Lisa Murkowski last year.

(Although having Donald Trump as a primary candidate and Pat Buchanan as a nominee, plus $80 million in federal financing, wasn't enough to save the Reform Party...)

The Wisconsin Green Party held its presidential primary today. Jill Stein easily won by another large margin. Results:

On "Super Tuesday" Jill Stein won 80-90% of the votes in the Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party's primary election. Her campaign site has this special page about the Green Party presidential primary race. She has won all seven primaries thus far, and has 50-52 (out of 63) delegates.
