Can a "Reagan Republican" Candidate still win the Presidency?

What is a "Reagan Republican?"  When I hear those words, I think Newt Gingrich.  Is that really who Republicans want as their candidate?

For me, a Reagan Republican is a candidate who is not from the South (like Reagan) but is a conservative who can attract swing voters in swing states.

Wasn't Romney basically running a Reagan 1980 campaign?

Across the board tax cut?
Huge increases in defense spending?
Promising that all that would work out while talking about a balanced budget?
Deregulation, as if it was actually what was killing the economy?

I don't think the American public can stomach another tripling of the debt, more war, and reckless deregulation.


Get out of the 1980s. Reagan isn't the answer to the GOP's problems. He is the cause of them.

If you think about it most Republicans since Reagan have ran Reagan campaigns. His influence has helped make our party what it is today.
