Utah.

Alabama still has a minority population who will continue to vote for the Democrats. Has had Democrats elected Statewide in the past 12 years, etc.

Utah, no question.  Alabama has a higher minority population plus a tradition of Dixiecrat politics; Utah doesn't.  Utah would vote for a STAUNCHLY socially liberal GOP, but I don't know if Alabama would (they probably would).

Voted Alabama. Whites in Bama have become some of the most staunch GOP voters in the country. Utah is more elastic, IMO.

Utah.

Which is no loss.

Utah has been the No. 1 best-performing state for Republicans for more than 30 years. (Only a 2008 John McCain didn't see it rank as his No. 1.)

Utah, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Idaho—the Powerful Four for today's Republican Party. Worth a combined total of 20 electoral votes.

In Alabama, you need a conservative democrat and a Yankee liberal to moderate republican. Pretty much impossible now, but hypothetically that would work. Utah is a different story, it would take some ridiculous landslide or a long-term migration of non-Mormons and Hispanics. The main problem with that though is many people come to Utah and then become Mormons Tongue. Utah would have to be a completely different state in the future to go democrat. Akin to Florida in 1920 vs. Florida in 1970. So yes, Utah.

Alabama.  Mormons are unique enough that some idiosyncratic event could cause them to abandon the GOP coalition.  That is much more plausible than a conservative Southern Democrat vs. liberal Northern Republican election ever happening again.  If the GOP nominee had a severe enough anti-Mormon gaffe, I could actually see Utah voting for the Dem.

In an already close race for gov or maybe even Matheson's old district. Otherwise when hell freezes over.
