Hochul's loss last year was a heartbreaker (so close too!) I hope he picks her.

She was my congresswoman, and I was horrified when she lost. You have no idea what it's like being represented by Chris Collins.

Donald Trump says he won't run for the Republican nomination for Governor and has "much bigger plans in mind", hinting a potential 2016 run for President and simultaneously calling the NY GOP "dysfunctional."

With this then, Cuomo is likely to face already declared Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino who scared off Trump since Trump didn't want a primary challenger. That and he probably figured out that he can't buy himself the Albany Governor's Mansion. The Conservative Party has already endorsed Astorino and Paladino said he won't run for the Conservative nomination like he had planned if Astorino ran, but will still have very little effect on this race since Cuomo's polling in the 60s against Astorino. Safe D for sure.

So it looks like Cuomo will be beating Astorino instead of Trump in a landslide this November

Really?

Probably socons mad about marriage or drugs or guns (mostly the latter). Or else the polarised GOP base who say that about anyone with a (D) in front of their name.

Yeah there's a solid portion of the electorate that will describe any Democrat as a liberal, and any Republican as conservative. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are both moderates, but many liberals would call Romney a conservative and many conservatives would call Obama liberal.
How is Romney a moderate?

Would 2014 be Cuomo's last campaign for NY State Governor?

A. Yes: he saw what happened to his father in 1994
B. No

Unless he's nominated for a cabinet position by Hillary, no

Plus Schumer and Gillibrand have those U.S. Senate seats for life, so Cuomo is stuck.

Poor guy!

I'm pretty sure is it's New York, not Cuomo, you should be feeling sorry for.

RIP the WFP this may be the end of them, doubt Teachout gets 50,000 votes.
Yeah, third parties that poll ~30% never do better than 1.1%

Why is it so impossible to elect a Republican in NY under any circumstances now?  In 1994, Pataki really wasn't a top tier candidate.  He was a little known State Senator from Putnam County.  And he beat Mario Cuomo.
Someone like Peter King or Chris Collins might have a shot against a weak Democrat, but Cuomo is extremely popular, and the NY GOP only seems to want to nominate joke candidates.
