So the only meaningful change is MK taking a huge bite out of ANC. Not exactly encouraging to have Zuma in a potentially decisive role again...

Some of us subscribe to the wild and crazy view that cheering for the extermination of large amounts of people is bad regardless of where these people are located. Shocking, I know.
sure, that's an easy position to take (how could you possibly be wrong?), but some of us don't feel bad cheering for terrorists to get blown up, it's a pretty easy position to take too.  But you're right, it doesn't matter where they get blown up.

If we keep voting for bad candidates because "the other viable candidate is worse," we will never have a chance to actually make the changes I think we need.

I guess it boils down to whether you agree or disagree that Trump is an unprecedented threat to our country or not, far beyond the typical fearmongering we hear about in every presidential election. If you see him as just a generic bad along with Biden and you don't really care which one wins, then vote for who you want.

I think that a Trump win fundamentally changes our country for the worse, in a way that no past (and likely no future) presidential candidate ever could have, thanks to his complete and open lack of regard for our democratic norms, and to the cultlike devotion of his followers. But if you disagree or don't care, then do what you have to do.

If they’re so willing to throw the election to Trump he least they can do is vote Democrats downballot to keep him from doing whatever he wants.

That's what I would do if i were American (which i'm not), but it's what I would do. Vote Cornel West and vote D downballot (unless it's also an AIPAC sponsored candidate or something like that - which many actually are... ).

Well some people want to throw Rashida Tlaib under the bus too, so i guess it really doesn't matter too much if i would throw an AIPAC candidate under the bus like Slotkin.

Point 4 is one that isn’t talked about enough. Rightly or wrongly, the Bernie Bros were blamed for Trump winning in 2016; why do these people think 2024 will be any different?

Every election they lose, they will blame anyone that isn't theirselves.

Remember that this is the brief season of silly buggers and of deals and all sorts of things are said and all sorts of things are done and not all that is said is done.

I'm not campaigning for a party that screeches I'm a racist.

Oh no I guess Starmer's finished now that he's lost the 19-year old, Alf Great enthusiast, pro-Palestine vote.

It seems like these Gaza protestors (many of them young, white and from privileged backgrounds) want fellow progressives and Democrats to abandon Biden over this issue, even if it means Trump wins and we move backwards on this and other priorities.

This is a raw deal and one that only the most chronically online, ivory tower progressive would even consider. Here are the questions I want to ask them when they continually make this appeal:

1) Do you think Trump would be better for Palestinians? Have you looked at his record and his statements on the matter? Do you not see at least some contrast between Trump and Biden?

2) If not, what's the plan to free Gaza if Trump gets into office?

3) Also, what's the plan for LGBTQ rights, student loan forgiveness, climate change and other priorities that will surely move backward if Trump wins?

4) How will you navigate a Democratic Party that will likely blame you heavily for Trump's win and won't consider you a good faith partner in shared objectives?

1. I don't see a difference, especially in terms of actions. Yes, maybe Biden is a little more careful with his words but at the end he keeps unconditionally supporting Netanyahu and that's what matters, while Trump can afford to more vocally back Netanyahu.

2. The same plan Biden has, none.

3. We just had a Democratic incumbent for four years and we are still talking about those same issues, and neither did Trump reverse same sex marriage either. What has Biden done for students, what has Biden done for the mariijuana legalisation effort. Right, exactly nothing. It's not just words that matters, it's also actions that matter. You can say everything, and do nothing.

4. They already do blame them at this point for Biden polling bad, or at least forum users. You already proof at this very moment that the Democratic Party is not their party.

Yes, I fully agree that Trump is not better than Biden. But no left wing activists are voting for Trump.... they just aren't voting Biden. Deal with it.

Maybe 2028 a Democrat can be elected again if they don't ignore the youth. But just like with Clinton in 2016 at this very moment, they are thrown under the bus and it may elect Trump, yes. Democrats will be to blame for this for failing to appeal or listen to the youth, not the youth because they didn't turn out.

You're not entitled to their vote, you have to earn their vote.

Right now you simply said don't earn that vote.

Very nice maps, though those are probably too fair for Republican-controlled states to implement.

This whole thread is built on a misreporting / misunderstanding.

She was in northern Israel and this was destined for Hezbollah which has been raining rockets down on civilians in northern Israel for months.
These bombs were apparently headed for Hezbollah, not Gaza, if that matters to anyone.
facts are not important in threads that bash Israel or disliked American politicians

Some of us subscribe to the wild and crazy view that cheering for the extermination of large amounts of people is bad regardless of where these people are located. Shocking, I know.

I mean, it's just pissing in the wind trying to attract 'yer da' types on Facebook. Nothing really lost.

I might be misconstruing this, because I’ve been doing some work with a small business that lives and dies off Meta advertising to 35-65s. But it’s feels like a massive oversight, surely?

Sure, Facebook trends older - but so do voters! Individual Tory candidates are spending thousands on Meta ads. The Lib Dems are running four different ads targeting Scottish voters alone.

As someone who is recieving those targeted ads (and on YouTube) there's a point at which they become spam. I had SLabs constituency based targeted YouTube ad about four or five times in one hour session (giving 'Granny, I got the job' vibes). And the comments on the Facebook ones, where allowed, are a dumpster. While it's clearly a cashflow decision not to run them so far, it is something I'm glad they are not funding.
