YUS.

TPTTAA:
Senator Collins, thanks for coming in.

Senator:
It's a great pleasure. Thank you.

TPTTAA:
This ship that was involved in the incident off West Australia this week -

Senator:
Yeah, the one the front fell off?

TPTTAA:
Yea?

Senator:
Yeah, that’s not very typical – I would like to make that point.

TPTTAA:
Well, how is it un-typical?

Senator:
Well, there are a lot of these ships going around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen, I just don’t want people thinking that tankers aren’t safe.

TPTTAA:
Was this tanker safe?

Senator:
Well, I was thinking about more about the other ones…

TPTTAA:
The ones that are safe?

Senator:
Yeah, the ones that the front doesn’t fall off.

TPTTAA:
Well, if this wasn’t safe, why did it have 80,000 tonnes of oil on it?

Senator:
I’m not saying it wasn’t safe … just …perhaps not quite as safe as some of the other ones.

TPTTAA:
Why?

Senator:
Well, some of them are built so that the front doesn’t fall off at all.

TPTTAA:
Well, wasn’t this built so that the front wouldn’t fall off?

Senator:
Well, obviously not

TPTTAA:
How do you know?

Senator:
Well ’cause the front fell off and 20,000 tonnes of oil spilt into the sea, caught fire – its a bit of a giveaway – I would just like to make the point that that is not normal.

TPTTAA:
Well, what sort of standards are these oil tankers built to?

Senator:
Ooh, very rigorous maritime engineering standards.

TPTTAA:
What sort of things?

Senator:
Well the front’s not supposed to fall off, for a start.

TPTTAA:
What other things?

Senator:
Well, there are regulations governing the materials that they can be made of.

TPTTAA:
What materials?

Senator:
Well… cardboard’s out.

TPTTAA:
And?

Senator:
No cardboard derivatives.

TPTTAA:
Like paper?

Senator:
No paper, no string, no cellotape.

TPTTAA:
Rubber?

Senator:
No, rubber’s out, umm… they have to have a steering wheel… there’s a minimum crew requirement.

TPTTAA:
Whats the minimum crew?

Senator:
Uh, one, I suppose.

TPTTAA:
So the allegations that they are just designed to carry as much oil as possible...

Senator:
Ludicrous!

TPTTAA:
...despite the consequences – I mean, that’s ludicrous, is it?

Senator:
Absolutely ludicrous! These are very very strong vessels.

TPTTAA:
So what happened in this case?

Senator:
Well the front fell off in this case, by all means – but its very unusual.

TPTTAA:
But – Senator Collins, why did the front fall off?

Senator:
Well, a wave hit it.

TPTTAA:
A wave hit it?

Senator:
A wave hit the ship.

TPTTAA:
Is that unusual?

Senator:
Oh yeah, at sea? Chance in a million.

TPTTAA:
So what do you do to protect the environment in cases like this?

Senator:
Well, the ship was towed outside of the environment.

TPTTAA:
Into another environment?

Senator:
No, no, no – its been towed beyond the environment, its not in the environment.

TPTTAA:
No, but from one environment into another environment?

Senator:
No, it’s beyond the environment – it’s not in an environment; it’s been towed beyond the environment.

TPTTAA:
Well, it must be somewhere, well, what’s out there?

Senator:
Nothing’s out there.

TPTTAA:
Well, there must be something out there.

Senator:
There’s nothing out there, all there is is sea… and birds… and fish.

TPTTAA:
And?

Senator:
And 20,000 tonnes of crude oil.

TPTTAA:
And what else?

Senator:
And a fire.

TPTTAA:
And anything else?

Senator:
And part of the ship that the front fell off – but there’s nothing else out there – it’s a complete void – the environment’s perfectly safe.

TPTTAA:
Senator collins, thanks for joining us. We are otu of time.

Perhaps the Imperial Domain of the South should consider reinstating the Anti-Necromancy Initiative. Wink

Well, personally I think that if the councilors could have voted in the universal legislature too, things could also have worked fine. The problem is that the "universal" legislature actually consists in a mere 3 people.

I have a feeling this would not have worked out as the legislators would still have moved on to other positions later on, leading to a deficit in active citizens.  A good amount of our active citizens were already office-holders on the Federal level, while many other citizens rarely visit Atlasia anymore.  Of course, I'm hoping the recent moves to the Pacific will help overcome this issue, it does not excuse that fact that we are still facing a deficit in membership.

That being said, I have introduced a new bills that will keep the Council intact but inactive if the appropriate amount of candidates do not declare.  The Pacific will retain the People's Assembly and operate out of that until the Council is once again viable.  The bill also allows Councilors to vote in the Assembly, and we will see how that works out when the time comes.

INTERBIEW

TPTTAA: Why did you runed for Senate?

Teddy: I wanted to see exactly where I stood.

TPTTAA: So you didn't intend to win?

Teddy: If I had, I would have actually, you know, campaigned.

TPTTAA: What if you DID win?

Teddy: When I counted that first election back in 2008 or whenever it was, I did not intend to become SoFE, but, I did, and I'd like to think I did that job well. Had I become a Senator, planned or not, I'd have done that job to the best of my abilities for as long as people wanted me in that position.

TPTTAA: Oh. Okay.

TPTTAA has hired a new correspondent. What we can tell you is that this is a poster, one who is not Teddy, but who will keep their identity secret for the time being. We expect his or her first story shortly.

Blackadder is an Atlasian, who has held various high positions at both regional and federal levels. As an active politician, currently in office, he is publishing here under a pseudonym.

Senate Ranking

By Blackadder.

North Carolina Yankee

While a bit overdramatic, he's simply the one who's preventing Senate from total collapse and decline.

Grade: A, naturally.

AHDuke

Very experienced Senator, active in debates. Especially valuable when it comes to working across political lines.

Grade: A.

Antonio V

While one of the Senate's newest members, he already established himself as a hard-working one, active in debates and proposing new stuff.

Grade: A.

Bgwah

Experienced and active, but can do much better. If he only were giving his Senate work as much attention as leading JCP...

Grade: B.

Snowguy716

Snowguy had an excellent first term, while still representing Midwest, and was an able PPT, despite lack of experience. However, lately he is quite inactive.

Grade: B.

shua

Pretty good for a newbie.

Grade: B.

Oakvale

Oakvale's a good guy, but as Senator, he's dissapointment so far. A lot of missed votes, almost no initiative on his own.

Grade: C.

HappyWarrior

Well, Happy is declining visibly. He was and still would be great, with all his initiatives, if he'd been actually voting regulary and responding to Yankee's questions whether he's accepting a damn amendment in hours, not weeks.

Grade: C.

RowanBrandon

Rowan likes to mess with the people and, despite his frequent bitching about Senate doing non-important stuff, he's rarely missing an opportunity to do some obstruction. However, he have bright moments and is very entertaining.

Grade: D.

Kalwejt

Basically a Rochambeau of the Senate. Spammer. It's not what activity is about, dumbass.

Grade: F.

I am glad someone is finally doing this kind of thing. Its long past due.

Of course it's not me because as you know all the grades would be much lower if I were doing, especailly annonymously. The highest would C and there would be about 3 or 4 F's. Evil

Of course, people would take it personally which is one of the drawbacks of this game that the voters and media are so close to the officials, and are officials themselves often.

Grade: C.

I had been starting to get inactive but over the last two weeks I've gotten back on track so I feel this is kinda unfounded.  I've also submitted alot more bills than most of the Senators this session so it isn't like I haven't worked my tail off.
