I kind of took over Sol's thread so I'm going to post a bunch of random redistricting maps.

Here's my crack at Delaware's 41 Legislative districts.

So this is my proudest achievement so far...

I got three Mississippi districts to vote for Obama over McCain (and they all swung to Obama in the 2012 election)

Here it is without county borders for easier viewing:

Mississippi 1 (blue):

Obama: 162,284 (50.2%)
McCain: 158,631 (49.1%)

Obama by 3,653 votes.

Mississippi 2 (green)Sad

Obama: 172,179 (49.9%)
McCain: 170,559 (49.4%)

Obama by 1,620 votes

Mississippi 3 (purple):

Obama: 153,907 (49.6%)
McCain: 153,839 (49.6%)

Obama by 68 votes

Mississippi 4 (red)Sad

McCain: 241,504 (77.6%)
Obama: 66,112 (21.3%)

McCain by 175,392 votes

Demographics of each district (entire population shown):

Mississippi 1:

49.9% White
45.8% Black
2.7% Hispanic
1.7% Other

Mississippi 2:

48.3% White
47.5% Black
2.2% Hispanic
2.0% Other

Mississippi 3:

52.4% White
41.5% Black
3.3% Hispanic
2.8% Other

Mississippi 4:

81.5% White
12.7% Black
2.9% Hispanic
2.8% Other

Decided to see a 10 district North Dakota -- Obama won 5 and McCain won 5.

It's safe to assume a few Obama districts moved to the Romney column.

49.4% McCain

District 3 (purple):

49.7% McCain

District 4 (red):

Obama 78-21, it's Denver County, plus a few suburb counties, and the average % for a Democrat is 74%.

Satan could run as a Democrat and win in this district.

Tried a nine-district Maryland with McCain winning the majority of districts.

1 (blue):
McCain: 49.8%
Obama: 48.7%

2 (green):
McCain: 49.5%
Obama: 48.9%

3 (purple):
49.9% McCain
48.3% Obama

4 (red):
50.8% McCain
48.1% Obama

5 (yellow):
51.8% McCain
46.7% Obama

6 (teal):
85.9% Obama
13.1% McCain

7 (silver):
83.2% Obama
16.0% McCain

8 (purplish blue (next to the cyan district)):
85.4% Obama
13.8% McCain

9 (cyan):
71.0% Obama
27.9% McCain

Districts 6 and 7 have a majority black population (57% and 58%) and District 8 has a plurality black district (47%).

District 9 is the only white-majority district where Obama won (53% white).

The five McCain districts are all around 70% white. (1 is 74%, 2 is 73%, 3 is 70%, 4 is 69%, 5 is 75%)

Flo's Maps: Now with Labels!

I wanted to make a map with a majority of districts voting 54%+ Obama so it would go to him in the 2012 election, with the remaining Republican districts grossly and unnecessarily gerrymandered.

And I think I accomplished that.

Missouri 1:
54.5% Obama
44.3% McCain

Missouri 2:
54.7% Obama
44.4% McCain

Missouri 3:
55.4% Obama
43.5% McCain

Missouri 4:
53.6% Obama
44.9% McCain

Missouri 5:
54.8% McCain
43.5% Obama

Missouri 6:
60.0% Obama
38.9% McCain

Missouri 7:
64.6% McCain
33.9% Obama

Missouri 8:
64.0% McCain
34.5% Obama

Since 5, 7, and 8 are all McCain CDs, why the need to gerrymander them? Your others are all reasonably shaped. As a map for the Dems, there's no reason to give the Pubs grounds for a challenge no matter how slim the chance, and the gerrymanders really only affect the Pubs.

2 Obama districts in Kansas:

1 (red): 49.4% Obama, 49.3% McCain
2 (blue): 50.6% Obama, 47.5% McCain
3 (yellow): 62.9% McCain, 35.1% Obama
4 (green): 67.7% McCain, 30.4% Obama

both of those districts probably went to Romney in 2012 and highly doubt you could make two 2012 Obama districts, only one.

I made that exact map a few months ago! Cheesy

Nope, the exact same thing, nice Colorado map btw.

I've never hated redistricting a state as much as Texas, from the random Democratic and Republican hotbeds, to Southern Texas, to the suburbs, and the very inconsistent voting districts that ranged from three people to over twenty thousand, I would like to say a few words to whoever designed this monstrosity of a voting map.

Anyways, I wanted to make a map with as many tossup seats as possible, since a certain Texan was disappointed that only one congressional district in the state was a toss up (the 2nd I believe), and here are the average Democratic/Republican results in each district (Obama overperformed in the cities and the suburbs and underperformed the rural areas).

Texas 1:
51.2% Republican

I wanted to get an Obama district in West Virginia, and it would certainly go to Mitt Romney in 2012, but oh well.

Actually pretty happy with this map. It started out for me making a Democratic district for my county (Lake/FL-09 on here) and I just kind of filled out of the rest of the state.

Gonna do a series based on this map:

Based on how the past 2 decades have gone, I think it's safe to assume that interstate migration will pick up again with the economy later this decade.  If that's the case, this would be my guess for the 2064 electoral map:

My first state was Nevada, and its six congressional districts.

District 1 (blue)Sad
50.1% Democrat (54.8% Obama)
49.9% Republican (43.0% McCain)

Toss Up/Tilt D

District 2 (green)Sad
62.5% Republican (57.6% McCain)
37.5% Democrat (39.7% Obama)

Strong R

District 3 (purple)Sad
56.0% Democrat (57.5% Obama)
44.0% Republican (40.6% McCain)

Solid D

District 4 (red):
54.5% Democrat (57.9% Obama)

45.5% Republican (40.1% McCain)

Lean D

District 5 (yellow)Sad
55.5% Democrat (58.1% Obama)
44.5% Republican (39.7% McCain)

Solid D

District 6 (teal)Sad
71.9% Democrat (71.6% Obama)
28.1% Republican (26.1% McCain)

Safe D

Ratings System:

Tossup (Tilt D/R): 50%-53%
Lean (D/R): 53-55%
Likely (D/R): 55%-60%
Solid (D/R): 60%-70%
Safe (D/R): 70%+

(Since Democrats win 5/6 seats in a normal year, they won 83% of seats, so the state is colored 80% red)

Next on the list is Idaho:

District 1 (blue):
66.5% McCain

31.3% Obama

Solid R

District 2 (green, oddly enough the whitest district)Sad
49.0% Obama
48.6% McCain

Toss Up/Tilt D

District 3 (purple)Sad
71.5% McCain
25.0% Obama

Safe R

Total Representation in the 138th congress:
9 Democrats
6 Republicans

Might as well add up all the safe, one district states.
