He would never run.  Despite what the general public believes, VPs are not that common in suceeding their Presidents.
It didn't use to be common. But in recent decades it's become the norm. Still, I don't think he will.

I don't know that I would vote for Cheney over someone like Edwards or Evan Bayh.  I just don't like the man and don't think he'd make a good president.  To be honest, he doesn't make a very good vice-president either...

My God, I still hope Bush gets rid of him this summer.  If he runs in '08, we have no chance in Hell.  I like Cheney, on the whole, but he has to many precieved skeltons in the closet.

I still don't understand why people think Cheney will run in '08. Believe me, he will NOT be running.

Cheney the Congressman was cool.  Cheney the VP has to kowtow to Bush the socialist.

Cheney was a libertarian Republican: hated spending, hated taxes, radically against gun control, pro-civil unions for gay people, and as Defense Secretary stood up for gay cadets in the armed services who were losing scholarships for being gay.  He also co-sponsored bills for equal rights of education for women.  Now of course, he didn't reverse the ban on gays or women in combat as SecDef, but he had to follow the President's cues on such big issues, so that's more an indication of his team spirit, not his politics.  His daughter's gay so we understand where he comes from I guess.

He's kinda wishy-washy on drugs and can be quite the drug warrier so that really shows why he's a Republican and not a full-on Libertarian, but still, he's got most of it going on there.

Dick Cheney could not campaign non-stop for a year. His body could not take it. Plus, for however much I dislike Bush and Reagan, they are good campaigners who connect/ed well with voters. Cheney is not that.

Hillary could win a Democratic primary, she is very popular among Democrats. In a national election, whoever got better turnout would win, it would probably be be good for both sides, since the Clinton's are especially polarizing. I still like Bill Richardson in 2008 if Bush is re-elected.

Wes Clark should have gotten in earlier. He said himself to CNN"s Wolf Blitzer that he wasn't well organized enough to compete in Iowa. By the time his train got rolling, it's destination (Dean) vanished. Personally, Dean never really had a chance. If he did well early, I have confidence that Democrats in later primaries would have sat down and said "Look, I like this guy, but it's fairly obvious that Karl Rove and the Bush team will tear him apart"

I will say this in every case where you just name one person running: WHo is he running against?  ANyone think Cheney would lose against LaRouche?

Dick Cheney would beat LaRocuhe. I doubt he could beat a serious candidate, although it depends if you call Dean serious or a more popular version of Dennis Kucinich.
Who would win a Dean-Cheney debate?

Cheney would beat Dean.

Cheney v. Hillary would be a close election.

Cheney v. Bayh, Breaux, Richardson, Edwards, etc. is a Dem victory.

----

But the Dems won't get that lucky.

First of all, I object to simply classifying Cheney as "far-right" or ultraconservative or anything else.  His position on gay rights was pretty good even in 2000.  In 2000 he would've been considered in the left half of the Democrats on gay marriage.  I'd say, in all, Cheney is a libertarian-leaning conservative.  He's not exactly a libertarian (trade and drugs) but simply grouping him in with Falwell or Buchanan is completely missing the point.

That said, his health and age would preclude him from getting the nomination, he's also not physically of the right build or shape to easily win the nomination.  People want a tall, healthy President.

I doubt that he'll run (although just about every Vice-Presidential candidate, even the losing ones, have run in recent times). His chances will be much better if he and Bush get elected, of course, but I don't think the Republicans would want to nominate him. Besides the health questions, he is a poor campaigner and has a habit of speaking before thinking.

I don't think he'll run. I think he'd do well if he did though.

I dont think he will run, If he did I think Edwards Would beat him. If Clinton was the Dem nominee Cheney would win by a landslide.
