Of those lists, I think the artists on the "independents" list was by far the best.

Agreed, and in the other two lists the best artists were the ones at at bottom (Pink Floyd, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley).

I would think that the fanbase for all forms of music would be liberal, except for country.  Certainly most artists seem to be liberals, and even country (the most conservative) seems to have a pretty even split.

Well, most artistic types in general lean to the left, but that doesn't mean all of their fans do. Conservative still listen to music, watch movies, etc., and just in the genres they are "supposed" to like.
