Buchanan didn't run a "secret government," and is thus better.

As much as I hate Reagan, at least the country didn't disintegrate under him.

I once posted that Reagan was never the answer, I stand by that.

You can't really compare Presidents across different historical periods.  Reagan was a horrible post-WWII 20th century President.  Buchanan was a horrible antebellum President.

Reagan is one of those horrible Presidents who we're lucky was President in the 1980s and not the 1860s or 1940s.  He was a Nazi sympathizer and would have been pro-slavery.

You don't think Reagan would've waged war against a fascist genocidal movement taking over Europe? You're crazy. The dude invaded Grenada and funded the Contras in his term, two completely unnecessary actions. And the slavery thing is just too unknowable as its 120 years past his presidency.

I would even give you a pass if you said he would a McCarthyite, but I don't how anybody can take you seriously with comments like that.

At most, Reagan would've been a "Nazi sympathizer" the way Joe Kennedy and Prescott Bush were.........i.e. they supported the Germans in business deals before WWII or  Pearl Harbor at the latest (and likely without anywhere near full knowledge of what Hitler was doing) but completely ended these ties with the declaration of war against Japan.   Any criticism levied at what Reagan might have done in that situation (when he was a Democrat, no less)  would equally be applied to Prescott and Joe (and thus arguably George HW & JFK/RFK), who actually did those things.

I like how you use the fact that Reagan supported fascist genocidal movements  as evidence that he'd oppose one

I suppose one could argue that the ardent anti-communist Reagan would have seen the Soviets as the greater evil, and refused to coordinate with them during WW2.

(Although this sort of idle hypothesising is largely bunk, obvs)
